Everybody says "more control" but how?

How would dumping the clutch be an advantage?

    I can downshift my auto

Love this feature - start the truck without actually having to hop in and back out.

Im sure you can do something similar with gear locking with OV tune but obvi a manual system will yield more control
clutch dumping is useful if your stuck or have to tow someone out or to look cool

There's that "more control" catch phrase again with no actual explanation.

How about this; in stock form, a 4runner is more capable than a Tacoma. The 4runner is only offered in auto. Therefore, auto is more capable than stick.:boink:

Yup. And one more time you don’t need to engage the clutch when starting up. Add that up over years and you’d be shocked.

Great feature - only time I’m okay with normal clutch ware is when actually shifting gears.

Explain to me how not engaging the clutch is an advantage. (I mean besides not having to be in the vehicle)

Ummmm I start/stop my vehicle 6+ times per day unfortunately. If I can avoid having to push my clutch in simply to start it up (which would add up to thousands over the course of a year) I like that. It’s a mechanical part, as you know, and wears with each engagement.

In the grand scheme am I’m prolonging clutch part replacement by a ton? Doubtful, but any little bit helps.

The physical inputs on a manual offer a lot finer, more convenient control and a faster reaction to your inputs than an auto. For example, how often do you go through the effort of using engine braking around town with an auto? If you're like most people, probably never. In a manual, you can use it very conveniently all the time, which is why my brake pads last so long.
