If you want to save yourself hours at the dealership, brake disc grease does the trick. I lubricated all the moving parts and havent heard it sqeak since.

Think they just want to outrun the storm until the warranty is up.

Jeff great information thanks. It's tough because the manual drivers are such a minority that the volume of complaints isn't the same. Also if we complain too much they are going to cancel manuals all together because it's not worth the hassle :(

I already had an appointment for the KOB recall and a few other things so the timing worked out. Plus I want it noted on my service file while it's still under warranty.

I have a 2nd gen but recently swapped out my old master cylinder and pedal with the updated parts list from the TSB minus the bushing. The new master is made out of metal, the old out of some kind of composite plastic.

Edit: 2015 and up Tacoma's come with a metal master cylinder. Mine was built before 2015.

The master cylinder switched from the plastic type to the metal type when the part number went from 31420-04020 (North American supplied, made in Germany) to 31420-60031 (Japanese supplier, Aisin, updated version from the Land Cruiser Prado 120 series), which is why the hose changed as well. This change happened in Sept. 2014, and so:

2005-2014 Tacomas came from the factory with a plastic master cylinder.
2015-2020 Tacomas came from the factory with a metal master cylinder.

Got it. So mine got upgraded, everyone else with a new truck is getting the same as they had before? I changed the hose also.

Well, they've made some change to it for the part number to change from 31420-60031 to 60032. Likely change was made to the clevis where it contacts the pedal, that is where most of the effort seems to have been focused in the changes over the years.

EDITED: The big difference is going to be the pedal itself, which now has a bushing where it contacts the spring instead of contacting directly on the pedal's plastic. It's a small, but potentially big change.

Gee, let's make a vital component to the pedal assembly out of full 3D printed plastic.

    Ghetto.

    Nice work!

Probably not much different other than longevity for the master.

?? Are you talking about the 2nd Gen master cylinder or the pedal. Both were most likely fiber reinforced nylon. While pretty dumb for the master, it should be golden for the pedal if designed properly. They did seem to not get it 100% correct.

Honestly at this point it's hard to know where the fault lies, but I suspect there were never really any issues with the master being plastic, but rather that the clevis and pedal contact surface is causing a squeak, but it's hard to know the exact reasons.

There are now 5 revisions to the master cylinder and 5 revisions to the pedal, with at least 3 revisions of clevis used.

The main difference between this newest TSB and T-SB-0186-12 Revision 2 is the updated pedal 31311-04021 and bushing 90389-06055 for the spring. The previous pedal/TSB updates did not have a bushing for the spring.

Production changed to the newest style used in this TSB for 2019 models produced starting in May, 2019.

I replaced mine twice, not really for noise/squeaking, but because the master cylinder failed. It did start with creaking though. This second time, I could feel the symptoms coming slowly and decided to swap to that TSB master, pedal, and hose, before the master completely fails and leaves the truck undrivable.

The reason its noisy in the heat is the lubricant they use just melts away, high temp disc brake grease works well in this application as it is resistant to melting away.

Is yours the new part? If so, is there anything visually jumping out at you?

Went to the dealership this weekend for the clutch appointment so they could confirm what I already knew. Maybe its attributed to the new parts, or manual parts not being worth it to hold in inventory, but they said they clutch assembly would take 7-10 business days to get in.
