Its probably more on dealerships that don't want to tie up capital or storage space on parts if they don't have to. They know the ones that are super common and fly off the shelves and ones that don't. So they wait on what they can and order it as needed from Toyota.

1.2 hrs of labor x shop rate plus parts, im guessing $250-350?

Think someone said the dealer quoted them a little shy of $1,000 to do it. Honestly if it was me and I was out of warranty I would look into URD or something aftermarket. Would be a shame to drop that kind of cash just for it to be an issue shortly down the road if a true fix hasn't been truly vetted by Toyota.

About 18mo ago, I was talking to my dealer about the diff vibes. They had to order even those parts, the seal and bearing.

But mainly, that was a sarc post since Toyota sort of invented JIT and Lean Manufacturing. What I have found over the years is that it just leads to delays for end users though with cascades of delays back up the tree.

Its a ripple effect for sure and often the note taking on your file isn't good so next time when you get a new service manager and tech you have to start over explaining what the issue is too.

The pedal new pedal assembly was showing up at about $150 online. My thought is that I can grab that, swap over the master cylinder and drop it in at home if I get the issue out of warranty and disk brake grease doesn't fix it.

My dealer said to just bring it back in and they will try to replicate the issue and contact toyota for further guidance. I'm coming on up my 3 years/36000 in March of 2020 so i just have to make sure i get it done before then

If you're within warranty you're good. The only think I would say is blow the feet heaters on hot before you go. Not sure where you live, but it seems to make the sound more in hot weather. If you're entering true winter months the sound may go away with the March 2020 date coming up.

I had my clutch replaced last year and its been great since, haven't neeed to re-grease it at all, but towards the end of summer/fall i started to notice a 'little' resistance and squeak in the clutch during times so I'm thinking if i let it go and blast the heat like you say, i can get it to replicate. I just won't regrease in the next 5 months

Yeah. That is BS. Given the three fasteners and one hose clamp that it takes to remove / install plus bleeding and some of the issues that folks have had afterward, I'm guessing book rate is about 1hr. They're just fucking with you, IMHO.

I figure it would take me 3hrs at home, so about $150 for the assembly and 3 x $2/hr for my free time labor rate and about six beers. :D

Absolutely, they probably just threw out 1k to keep that person from asking again is my guess.

So, what folks do on CL when they don't really want to sell that motorcycle or project car?

At least I tried to sell it for what I had in it, right?

What I did was wait until both my folks died and used the small bit of life insurance money to do whatever the fuck I wanted. It was a mid-life crisis at 33. A cheap bike and decent gear got me outta that funk.
