Got to go riding for the 5th weekend in a row! (One of them was a road ride, even!)

Looks like the seat bolt was way too tight to shear right at the stem plate like that.

That pic was taken after I pulled the saddle off and hand tightened back on to throw my SS on the rack to drive home. But you could be right...the one set of bolts I didn’t use a torque wrench on.

Guess that makes Colorado double stuffed. Makes sense, sure as shit feels like it.

That seems like a piss poor clamp design. Major stress points on the rails.

I'll second this. Dont think you would have any issues with a more traditional clamp.

That’s it ??? NJ is like 1/4 the size of either and population is about 9 million. That’s fucked up I need to move.

    Sorry, we're full.

Also keep in mind that like 75% of Utah is barren, god forsaken desert as opposed to wooded and fairly lush NJ. Only real population centers in UT are Ogden-SLC-Provo and then St. George. So that 3 million in population density is fairly compact.

Does anyone have any experience with using a tailgate pad to transport bikes without straps to secure it to the tailgate? I'm considering cutting the straps off completely and storing my tailgate pad in the bed of my truck with Tonneau cover closed. When I need to transport my mountain bike, I'll open the tonneau cover and throw the pad on the tailgate and I'm ready to go. I figure the weight of the bike should be plenty to keep the tailgate pad in place. It would be much more convenient to not worry about attaching the straps every time I transport my bike (3-4 days per week).

I've never bothered with the straps and no issues here. Unless you were hucking dunes at Glamis, you need a lot to jostle a 30lb bike any meaningful distance.

That's what I wanted to hear! Thanks. I guess my only real concern was if going at highway speeds and my bike is on one side of the tailgate pad, maybe the other side of the pad would flap in the wind and damage my paint job over time. The pad is pretty heavy though so maybe nothing to worry about.

Oh, those straps, I thought you meant the frame straps for the bikes. Reading is hard

Still no issues as I cut those straps off a while ago. But I have a fridge on the passenger side to block half the wind that my bike isn't covering. You *might* have issues, but I doubt it. People use blankets and moving pads all the time around here to make a DIY version and it isn't an issue.

Are the straps that cumbersome to warrant cutting them off? Not asking to be a prick, asking as I have no clue. Just seems like removing a feature from a product to save a few minutes of setup/takedown might be fruitless in the long run.

They were pretty easy, you're right, but as opposed to just tossing the pad on in literally 1 second...

It's kind of a pain to hook up the straps 3-4 times a week. The gap between my tailgate and bed is very small on one side and takes some focus to thread the strap underneath. It probably doesn't take more than 3 minutes total, so it's really more about removing a step that I don't enjoy than it is about a considerable time savings.
