Thinking about selling my 2012 OR and getting a 2020. Don’t know about the value of mine though. I know prices differ a bit depending on area. I have a 2012 OR with a 3” OME lift, an ARE shell and 153,000 miles. Can I get $14k out of it?

    It really depends on condition.

If it was a dime you'd probably fetch near 18 if selling to the right person private party.

Here in Arizona you could get 14k (if not more) private party out of that truck all day long assuming it is 4wd and not really trashed. The 4wd thing makes a big difference in price though. Trade in probably around 12ish.

I would sell the shell, front bar, and roof rack. Try to get an OEM grill, make it more appealing to the general public for a sale. It’s a nice truck and looks to be in good shape.

If it is a 4x4 and in good shape, I'd say easily $14K. People here in Hawaii would like a setup like that.

I had thought about selling it and keeping 2-3k for a lift and tires/wheels or a bumper for the new one. I would pay the remaining $ down.

Why sell it? It’s good for another 200k miles easy.

My next door neighbor is a top Toyota mechanic. I was considering the same trade "up".
He told me to KEEP my 2nd gen and that a lot of people don't like the 3rd gen ....especially the transmission.

Every now and then I jump in the 3rd gen side and it’s always how they hate everything about it. Shifts like crap, both auto and manual, this that and the other. Glad I have a trouble free 2015.

Plus, the 3rd gens don’t come in Pyrite Mica. Which is sexy AF.

@tomwilson74 Can I share my recent experiences? I was looking at a 2019 trd off road 4x4 and even test drove twice a 2020 trd off road 4x4. I was torn and never pulled the trigger since my 2015 trd off road 4x4 barely has 54k miles and seems bulletproof. While i was shopping for a new Tacoma, i looked at 2nd gen prices just to see. You can EASILY get $20k+ for your truck if it's single owner and low miles never salvaged title. I have a couple buddies with 3rd gens and once you start lifting, adding tires, camper or steel bumpers, etc, you will need to get it regeared faster than you would have a 2nd gen. It's not the transmission, its the gears. The 3rd gen was created to exceed mpg expectations. Are you looking to upgrade for any particular reason just as interior or tech?

I agree that’s the best color Toyota has had in a long time.

I would like to have the new touch screen but I really love that new Olive Drab paint.

That’s a lot of money for a touchscreen and paint color.
