Hi, I don’t have a Tacoma yet, I’m just trying to find one that’s right for me. I see one south of Portland, Maine (Old Orchard Beach) that is not really a looker but apparently it has a new frame and other new factory bits installed. I’m in southern CT and can’t drive all around test driving trucks so if someone could just give it a test drive and look around and kick the tires that would give me enough info to make the drive up there to possibly get it...or not.

Beers/car washes/washing your truck with beer...let me know and I’ll do my best to compensate you.

Also, I don’t know these trucks that well so whoever helps me out will have more knowledge on what to look for. I know the 80’s and 90’s 22re stuff.

    Thanks

Here’s the link to the ad:
    https://maine.craigslist.org/cto/d/old-orchard-beach-2010-toyota-tacoma-4/7000923599.html

    The address is:
40 Manson Libby Road Scarborough, ME

The guy is going to send me some more detailed pictures of the frame and engine bay and stuff so I’ll let you know how that goes and if it’s worth you checking it out.

As far as what to look for, if you could confirm the frame looks to be in good shape with no/very minimal rust on it along with seeing if there are any very rusty bits that I should worry about. And also checking that the spare tire winch isn’t seized (but that should have been replaced with the frame). Other than the rust it would just be test driving and seeing if it holds up to what he says in the ad. No check engine light, no ball joint clunking noises, no vibrating steering wheel or anything, brakes feel good and doesn’t pull to one side, truck tracks in a straight line, no oil globs in the coolant or white foam under the oil fill cap or dip stick. Also if you could check if the parking brake holds on a steep hill if you can find one.

That’s pretty much it but of course if you see any red flags then let me know. Or if you get a bad vibe from the seller. You can text whatever pictures you want to my cell: 203-816-1694.

Let me know your schedule and if you think you can check it out. But again, I’ll let you know how those pictures look that he sends me before you need to do anything. If they suck then you’re off the hook!

    Thanks brother!

Gotta make sure the 4wd cycles also.

New winch is installed during frame work

Check for clutch slippage during road test

Sorry my schedule this week keeps me from going to see it.

Ok that’s what I thought about the winch, just wanted to be sure. Thanks for the confirmation. And oh right, yeah like going up a hill and going a little hard on the gas in a higher gear.

as for the 4wd that’s just flipping the switch and seeing it on the dash? Short of finding mud or snow to test it on would you just feel for more of a heavy load on the truck? My current truck is purely mechanical with manual locking hubs. This is electronic, right?

No problem buddy, the thought is appreciated!

Yea your gonna have to get use to the new style 4wd. It’s all electronic with a set procedure on using it.
It has to be exercised regularly to keep things from sticking.
You start going all button turner on it and you will confuse it..

Yes on the extra load to check the clutch.

Yeah dude, I went up there on Saturday and looked it over and took it for a test drive. I‘m coming back up this coming weekend to grab it! It’s in good shape and runs great! Of course as you saw new frame, brake lines, control arms, leaf springs, etc. I was worried the dents and scratches would be worse but they’re not bad at all. I can hammer out the dents on the rear bumper and repaint. The body dents on the left rear might be able to be hammered out. I’ll see what happens there. But thanks again for checking it out, you rock!

On my way back home I’m going to try to stop at Matt’s and get it fluid filmed. Excited to soon be a part of this community.
