Prinsu vs Victory 4x4

I got my cap rack in on Monday....now I have to wait for shell to deliver...4 more weeks

 

Ok I have a couple questions for those of you in the know. I’ve only owned my new Tacoma for a couple months I’ve been a long time Camaro owner and I’m torn between the Prinsu and the Victory for my 2019 DCOR 4x4 and my questions are if I buy either setups do I buy them with light bar cutouts and do all light bars fit bot setups? Next question when I get the light bar does it fit flush on the rack so if I was to put a kayak on the rack it won’t interfere with the light. Next question I want to treat myself and order everything from one spot the roof rack, light bar for rack and light bar for behind the grille maybe new fog lights so who can I go through without braking the bank? Any recommendations? Don’t need top of the line and don’t need el cheap o’ s. Last question.......Do I need anything to go along with what I have mentioned and can I install these things myself? Thanks if anyone can help me out.

 

The rack gives you a great platform to add any number of accessories.

Yes, buy the version with the light bar cutout if you plan to run a light bar up front.

Not all light bars will work, I would pick off the list known to work unless you feel like you can fabricate brackets etc to make a different model work.

With a light bar on the rack or even behind the grill, I would recommend wiring using a relay system due to the power draw.

Lots of good YouTube videos on LED bar wiring.

Also consider a 6 or 8 circuit switch module for 12v accessories.

 

Thank you for your input there’s just so much info out here I’m in information overload! I’ve checked out YouTube videos and looked at so many truck builds my mind is blown I should have just picked one and went with it and not over thought it.

 

I like my Prinsu. Fit and finish is fine, 0 flashing anywhere.

If I was buying today, i'd buy either one.

 

Had a 2017 with a Prinsu that was wrecked and totaled. Replaced with a 2019 same OR 4x4 DCSB. Just recieved a new Prinsu ready to install a week after ordering! The Victorys look really nice too, and I did consider them, but decided to go back to the Prinsu simply because I really liked it. I just read above that the Victory did not come with an extrusion bar to back up the front fairing. I don't know for a fact if that is true, but the Prinsu does come with one, so I'm kinda glad for that.

 

+1 for the Prinsu. Mine was a bit tricky to install (tough to get the holes lined up), but it has been rock-solid since. It seems very sturdy and has done a great job hauling everything I’ve put up there.

 

Ok so it appears the vibration is coming from the rear panel and no matter what position or how tight I torque the bolts it would still vibrate at high speed. I ended up putting weather stripping back there as well which seems to be doing the trick.

Will report back in a few weeks.

 

Yes it is true and I personally like the look of prinsu better but those mounting pointe seem weak to me and I liked the fact that Victoria is steel. Now If I can only get victory to sell me the top rack side plate I’d be golden. Right now my rear does not match my front :/

I recently put the Victory 4x4 roof rack on my 2019 TRD OR DCSB. Both the front and rear fairings have the edge trim on them and they are tight against the roof. I have no noise even at 80 mph and no gas mileage loss.

 

The Prinsu certainly doesn't have a weak mounting setup. It has 5 mounting points on each side for a total of 10 to distribute the weight evenly across the cab roof, including the middle area, not just in the front and back. The 5052 aluminum alloy it uses is highly corrosion resistant, so is great for its intended use out in the weather. Not sure what steel alloy the Victory uses. Is it a stainless? Like I said, the Victory is a great looking rack, and I certainly would have had a hard time deciding between it and the Prinsu, had I not already had the experience with the Prinsu. I'm sure the Victory will serve you well. By the way, it looks great!

 

For all you guys putting together a rack, whether the frame is steel or aluminum, I'd HIGHLY recommend using an anti-seize lubricant on all screws going into the aluminum cross bars. The reason is because steel and aluminum are dissimilar metals. Dissimilar metals in a wet or moist environment will cause galvanic corrosion, and the drilled holes in the aluminum cross bars will corrode around the steel screws causing not only weakness at those points, but will also be eating away at the aluminum. Winter roadway salt will be 10 times worse. I use Permatex anti-seize lubricant for ALUMINUM on all my bolts and I've not had any problems loosening and re-positioning the cross bars. If you've already put your rack together, I'd highly recommend you unscrew each screw and apply the anti-seize lube before it's too late.

 

Mine came with one edge trim nothing for the back. I ended up putting one on this past weekend and it eliminated the vibration.

 

Depending on location in the US, yes. But I find it's a good practice to put it on every bolt you touch on the truck. Makes life easier later

Our mounts are mild steel, but they are coated with a zinc-rich primer before the final layer of powder coat.

 

I installed my Victory rack a couple of days ago and am loving it! I dropped mounting legs and fairings to lowest position and used the weatherstripping front and rear. Seems to limit wind noise for sure. I may add some paint protection film under the weatherstrip to prevent wear. I added some cheap grab handles off eBay that I’m undecided on whether to leave them on...
I had read about the deburring issue on this thread and while it’s not a deal breaker it does seem to still be an issue.

 

how did you do the weather stripping for the channel? that's one step he didn't cover in his video.

 

Very carefully!!! I actually try to keep things very clean which means takes longer but I’m happy with results. I fully mounted rack to roof but before I lowered too the roof I laid out weathstrip along channel and carefully marked where legs would be along strip. May want to secure with tape at back end, couldn’t put ends together but can line up side by side. Once I was happy with marks I slid it back out and used a razor knife to carefully notch it out about 1/4” side to side. I also had to remove some material from below to account for mounting feet and bolts. I removed that full width. There is a metal strip running full length buried in there. Once I knew about where it lay I notched to that depth. Then put it back together and hope you measured well . If all else fails I figured I would just cut into sections to place between legs. Hope that makes sense. If needed I can pop it off and take more pic

 

I was looking for something that would work with the T-Slots in the Victory rack. I gave up and just ordered some Yakima Jaylows to clamp around the bars instead. I'll report back if they work.
