Not certain I will use it much, but after unbolting the header I was amazed how light it was and how flimsy the front of the bed is. The rail actually weighs more than the header and seems like it will add a lot of strength.

As mentioned you do not need screws, You re-use the 5 that are already there. You unbolt the header then place the rail on top of the strip that bolts the header to the bed. Then re-install the screws, effectively sandwiching the header between the rail and bed.

Make sure to orient the two asymmetrical drain holes facing down.

You'll need a T-30 Torx

Perhaps 10 minutes.

I'd have to disagree on the cost savings issue. Having worked in the manufacture of engine brakes for the Japanese large truck market I am certain that cost savings is an issue. It may very well be that weight consideration was an issue as well but cost savings was definitely in the mix. The Japanese are very efficient when it comes to cost and quality requirements.
Just sayin'.
