It would be easier if everyone just switched to GMRS/ FRS for sure. Even the handheld units have great range equalling or exceeding common CB setups, especially when people have them mounted on the side of the tailgate. But everyone has CB, so that's sort of the norm.

I like that Btech gmrs unit you posted above. Looks nice, with the short whip it would probably blow most cb setups out of the water.

I'm using a mag mount for my CB and it's been great, but it can get knocked off by branches and such. Also might not work for people who've gone full expo/ Overlund and are transporting 1000# of Skottles and slightly annoyed muskrat murder fork shovels on their roofs

They have nmo mount antennas that cover gmrs. So basically you can run them to a rack, your tailgate, drill into your roof, hood, bumper, ect. It's a very common bracket which has helped tons.

And at 5w, throw that mag mount on your hood. Hahaha. It'll ride.

If you're looking for a sweet gmrs antenna that would just increase the heck out of your range compared to a handheld in a truck, this will be your huckleberry

Just pair it with whatever nmo mount that you'd like on your truck

Ha, I've just got a Nagoya screw in whip for my 5w handheld. I usually just run it in low power mode, iirc 2w, if I was to theoretically use it on gmrs/ FRS. Works awesome.

I've got a lil-wil mag mount for my CB. I ran the tailgate mount on my taco and it was shitty unless I had a giant ass firestik or whip on it. Same on my FJ, I was running a firestik off the rear door hinge and it was Garbage. Went to the lil- wil on the roof on the FJ, and now the Landcruiser and it's been perfect. Excellent range, no tuning works great. I can hear the trail leader when I'm bringing up the rear( giggitty) even when spread very far apart up in the NH woods.

Lol right. Not to go holy roller with the ham stuff, but I got a kick out of the yota fall crawl when I could hardly hear the front of the pack in cb, but was shooting the shit with a guy 40 miles away. Haha.

Did you go up for the all truck fall crawl too?

I had a wedding the weekend of the yoga run so I couldn't go. I just did the regular ENH fall crawl with the new to me Landcruiser. We had 12 trucks in the stock group and got pretty spread out, I was second to last and was able to hear/ communicate with the leader the whole time just fine which was nice. Especially hearing others over the radio asking for repeat/ saying they couldn't understand due to garbled comms.

So change of plans. I'm in the works of talking with @mach1man001 about his Toys for Tots run. We decided in the interest of both runs that we are going to combine dates so nobody's run takes away from the other. I'd hate to see what we had planned for 11/10 take away interest form a tradition that brings such good.

This means that the Toys for Tots run will likely be held the weekend of 11/23 with the probable date of 11/24 since it seems many of us prefer Sundays. This isn't finalized in stone yet, but I wanted to let people know that the 11/10 date is off the table and will be pushed back another few weeks. Apologies to those who already secured plans with the boss, wife, ect. This means a new role call will have to be done. Let me know if the new date of 11/24 works for you. Let me know of any names I forgot to tag.

Since Rob won't be able to attend the event I'm going to need some help with the collection and transfer of toys to Rob. If anyone can help with this it would be really appreciated.

I also don't want to step on anyone's toes in becoming the de facto leader of this next run. In the interest of transparency, I've only wheeled the RI spot once, but I know that enough of us have gone enough times we can assemble sufficient knowledge for a successful day.

Finally, I have a few issues going on in my personal life that might mean I won't be able to attend. I'd know for sure once we are about 10-14 days out from the run. I don't think it will interfere, but it is a possibility. If that is the case the run would need someone else to step up and be the lead. I just want to put all cards out on the table.

If it's Sunday I am 100% in.. Hopefully it'll end up being Sunday! Suspension (sans leaf springs, those are a few days out) came in today so it'll be a good time to stretch her legs @tacobell007 @crashngiggles
@littlefish thanks for helping out with this - it was a lot of fun last year and for a great cause! @mach1man001 did good for sure. I'm down to help get the toys to Rob when done, but do not have a cap/ cover, so weather/ mud depending lol

Unless the overwhelming majority would prefer the Saturday, I think the Sunday will be the date.

I work some Saturdays, but more importantly I have my son Saturdays.. Not to pressure anyone but if it is Saturday I'd be out.. He loves trucks and dirt and rocks, but I'm not so sure how he'd do strapped in his car seat that long lol (He's 2)

There is a good chance that I should be able to make it on either Saturday or sunday. @mach1man001 is a good road leader......if we go on sunday, who would like to lead? I do have some track paths from the last time we were there but I don't know if stock trucks could follow me down some of those trails....

There was one trail where it went down hill and was super rocky.. Little more technical, and I scraped/ banged, but honestly it was probably my favorite trail we did.. @littlefish I heard you banging around behind me also haha. @mach1man001 helped spot us as we went down.. That's why i like this group.. super helpful!

That was awesome btw......I am trying to map it now on "alltrails" but I cant find the entrance at the top of the hill. I know it's on the powerline road but I cant find the entrance. I did find rocky hill though......the beast that separates the men from the boys.....well, and the daily drivers from their front axles anyway lol
