Hey guys! New to the taco world. Struggling to find the right thread for my question... Looking for advice on removing emblems and painting black. What adhesive you should use to put them back on and what sort of process to paint them the right way. Tried plastidip and it didnt work to well. Looking for something a little more durable and weather proof. Thanks!!!

I removed them with heat and fishing line. Remove old adhesive with goo gone or mineral spirits. Sanded, sprayed with several coats each of adhesion promoter, paint, and clear coat. Adhesive to use is 3M "Super Strength Molding Tape". Its been a couple years and they still look the same as when I did it

Thanks for the advice! What sort of adhesive does it come with? If any.

Plastidip. It's a miracle product if you do it correctly. Don't mess around taking the badges off, just 'dip them. Watch some YouTube vids and dooo eeeeet.

There's an adhesive glue I see recommended on this site quite often, do not use that. Removing the emblems later will result in taking the paint with it. 3m tape I believe is the answer. Good luck cutting it, if you get it right, you have way more patience than I do.

By cutting you mean cutting the tape? Haha

I mean cutting the tape so you can't see it after you install. Fishing line should be used to remove.

He means cutting the tape to re-apply the emblems. You cant just put a long strip or you'll see it behind the letters. You have to cut it to fit the corners of all the letters. Just cut small pieces at a time, its not that bad just takes patience. And don't spray them on the truck. Do it right the first time, it'll look better and you'll never have to do it again.

They don't make them in 3rd gen letter's which has been an issue for a while. Not sure why they haven't figured out that nobody wants chrome on a vehicle anymore.

Plastidip. Its easy and works great if you follow the directions. I did mine 5 years ago and they still look perfect.

I made this comment earlier and realized I hadn't checked in a while. There appears to be a eBay vendor selling 3rd gen emblems in black with 3m tape already applied. I just placed an order. $26 shipped for two of them. I'll update when I see the quality of them.
