Yeah I was out hunting antelope north of Big Timber a few years ago and I was caught in a literal crossfire as folks turned a doe 'lope into swiss cheese. Terrifying. I immediately left that section of land.

I keep trying to go deeper and deeper into the woods to avoid too many folks, but there are a lot of hunters out there anymore. Caliber/platform notwithstanding I'd love to see people exercise a little more caution and common sense.

Anybod have any luck this weekend?

Filled my general deer tag last Sunday during the last day of archery season with a wide 4x4 whitetail and just punched my B tag this afternoon. Biologist aged my doe at 4.5 years, so at least she had time to pass her genes on. Saw a ton of elk too, so I'm hoping to punch my last tag next weekend.

My dad got his elk Saturday night. I'll be taking my gun for some walks this week.

Logged 10 miles on foot Saturday. Saw a bunch of does and one small buck. Took my Daughter out Sunday to a ranch we can hunt to fill my doe tag. Saw a bunch of deer but didn't like the shot I would have made if I missed (unknown background) so I passed. On our way our we saw about 25 deer on the neighboring property. We were watching two bucks fighting for a while until a 3rd much bigger buck came running from the trees too fight one of the smaller bucks and ran him off. I stopped at the other ranch house and knocked on the door and got permission to come back and do some hunting there. Going back Tuesday to get set up for a buck. Might fill my doe tag who knows. All I know is the Sunday hunt with my Daughter was the most fun hunt I've been on yet. Lots of memories on that one.

When it comes to bears, if they make any aggressive moves in my direction I have a firm policy of SSU (shoot, shut up). Those hunters will probably be charged knowing the .gov regardless of evidence. Grizzlies need to be taken from the endangered species list IMHO

they did the right thing by coming forward right away. with the other attacks in the area and the loss of habitat its to everyone's best interest that every attack and interaction be reported. no matter how minor.

guilty people run, honest people speak out.

I talked with a USFS forest ranger on Sat afternoon as we got back to the rig, and he said a hunter shot a 400lb griz on the Red Cub trail after "mistaking" it for a black bear. They have shut the trail until further notice, got the US Fish & Wildlife involved etc. He was not real happy about the situation.

But he said they reported it immediately, so that was good.

Realized I never posted my first whitetail from the last day of the archery season! Shot this guy on some state land and he ended up dying on private land. Fortunately I was able to find contact info for the landowner and they were gracious enough to let me take a look for him. Recovered him the next morning since it quickly got too dark to continue looking without potentially bumping him and losing him for good.

@90yota, I saw you rolling around/just off base a few times today. Looks good without the topper and pictures don't do your rig justice!
