Here's a mod my Tacoma helped with...hauled a sheet of steel to make the ramp handicap accessible. It weighed a couple hundred pounds.

 

as I just got a new Taco 2 weeks ago or so... I just got in the mail the qt of ATF and new crush washer so I checked to make sure it was full.... It was if anything 4 oz low but that could have been what was left on the collection pan I had down.....

Cost is ALWAYS a consideration, but with the holes and screws already there all we are talking about is the cost of the product itself. It is simply stamped and folded. in bulk it could not be more than $2-3 bucks. Hell, Toyota will audit you and make sure you are just making pennies above cost of materials and manufacturing.

The rail's 4.5 lbs. is only a 10th of a % of the trucks weight...…..Americans are demanding more shit be added to even the most basic vehicles and that weight has to be offset in other places or shipping costs rise and CAFE number plummet. I'm sure the Toyota product development folks get frustrated with their internal corporate objectives to save weight when (some) consumers cannot wait to add 1,000 lbs of stuff to their truck.

I make my living in product development, ounces become pounds.

If you really dig deeper weight savings is one of the areas where the Japanese automakers really first beat the Americans and the benefits are compounded. In the old days American cars would have certain parts that would last 40,000 miles and other parts that could take a nuclear strike. The overbuilt parts made the cars heavy and resulted in other parts needing to be overbuilt in a never ending circlejerk. The Japanese were the first to make cars that went 200K without much attention, but at that point EVERYTHING (some would say even the windshield would be worn out) Now that number has increased to 300K for Japanese cars.

Usually wait till around noon. That gets most of the meat hunters out of the way and then the real dog guys hunt the birds that have been spread out. For me it's more about watching the dog do what you've trained him to do and alot less than what I put in the game bag. If it was about just having to shoot a bird I'd be out there for all the wrong reasons. Just my take on it. Anytime we both come in one piece is a good day afield.

 

If you then add the cost (time is money) to install it times X number of vehicles built and then add the profit from selling it as an option times X number of units sold IMO it comes down to profit over weight. The plastic rear bumper would be another example of huge cost savings in both materials and man hours.
We're both just looking at things from a different perspective. Profit is the main goal of any industry.

 

Anyone have their driver door lock switch go out? Passenger and rear doors lock and unlock fine.

 

As noted not needed, you reuse the screws that are already there. I recall seeing empty holes, but they are in the haeder (2) for something else. I guessed (wrong) and ordered 4, AND there were not needed as you just reuse the 5 that are already installed.

I have spares now, lol.

I'm curious about that scoop on the intake. Is it always in that position? How does that work? Logic and the Venturi Effect would suggest you are creating a low pressure area at the opening at speed. Perhaps OK on the dyno, but no bueno going down the road. Just trying to understand.

 

Well not today specifically.... but it has started in a faster pace than expected.

2" lift all around via OME and body chop work last week.
Method 701's with 285/70 Geolander mt's this week.

Just a prototype, haven't tested yet. It's not a ram air but I don't think there will be any issues(fingers crossed). I have tried out a regular snorkel head turned 180° with no side effects.
