For those of you that change your own oil. What do you do with your own used oil?? Here where I live in Pa they only want to take 5 qt max and you have to smooch their butt to take that. Anyone know if this is BS. I must have 20 or thirty gallons laying around in gal jugs from a lot of my other vehicles I,d like to be rid of safely. I can,t start changing my new Taco till I get rid of this old stuff. Help, I'm drowning in oil!

Our local Autozone will take as much as you have. I have taken 8 gallons in before and no issue.

You can post an add. Some of the old dudes around here use waste oil heaters in there shops if there is no water or excessive fuel in it they will happily burn it for you.

I just dump it down a storm drain.

All joking aside, I usually take mine to O'Reilly Auto Parts. That way I can look at the Hot Wheels while I'm in there.

Most of our parts stores will take it. My city has a Household Hazardous Waste drop off facility where you can drop off oil and lots of other stuff (paint, chemicals, electronics, et. al.). I usually wait until I have a few gallons and then bring it in. If you hold on to your filters they will give you a voucher for a new one valued up to $15.00 which is nice. The city also gives out 15 Qt pan/container combos to use along with buckets for filters. They really do all they can to help recycle waste.

For a city to not want to take that waste is stupid, it will just end up in a landfill. Why not take control of it? Some of it has value that will offset costs.

The Wal-Mart near me has a cage around their oil recycling collection container(?) around back near the auto center. Myself and others just leave the used oil in jugs next to it and the employees dump it in. Don't have to interact with anyone.

Local county government also has 6 hazardous waste disposal days a year.

I never wanted to deal with used motor oil at auto parts stores because several years a go I saw a guy walk into AutoZone and try to leave a jug of used oil. The employees yelled at him and said you can't leave that here. We will dump the oil, but you have to take the jug. And of course he just tossed the empty jug in their trash can outside. But it any event, I'm not interested in dealing with any weird policies at an auto parts store. I thought it was standard practice to put used old back in jug that new oil came from and expect to get rid of it.

In most states, it is a law that the seller must provide recycling of used motor oil they sell. Me thinks you be gettin' bull shitted.

I dump it in my oil hole in the backyard. Dirt is a good absorbent.
