The LCA bushings and lower ball joint, can all be pressed out with the kit you rent.

I'll bring it to the ACC meet up at Chocco. But here's a better pic of it with antique micarta handles on it.

I also assume that before I remove the LCA, I can mark the alignment cams and then just match the sharpie marks during reinstallation without having to go to a shop? Or would someone professional still need to align it?

Getting an alignment done by a shop is a good rule of thumb anytime you remove a control arm, upper or lower.

Marking your cam locations is the suggested procedure as this will keep you from dying, or killing someone else, on your way to the alignment shop.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I rebuild mine for that very reason, is that unless it’s toast it’s probably worth rebuilding due to how expensive they are.
Besides, the best thing to do is to go ahead and change out the ring C Clips to a Hose clamp.
Those oem bands blow all the time, even after you install new ones.

    Pretty much what Jonathan said.

On that note, I would recommend picking up a secondary set of OEM cam bolts. It's not uncommon for those to get seized in there and have to be cut out. Good to have the spare on hand just in case. I think I have a set that I'll see if I can lay eyes on.

Are you talking about the c-clips inside the boot? I assume you are talking about using a box hose clamp on the boots?

    I recently rebuild my CVs.

    1. Yes, it's messy.
    2. You need a gear puller and boot clamp pliers. Gear puller has many other uses. A good pliers is about $35. Don't get the cheap ones.
    3. You get what you pay for.

All in all, an easy job. Toyota replacement boots and grease are cheaper than aftermarket axles - and way better.

Yes, the clamp around the boot. OEM ones are trash. Use a hose clamp

Hmm, I may just have to rebuild mine then, if it's going to be better with better boots. How do you know if a CV shaft is beyond refurb?

    It clicks when you turn.
IMO, if you have already rebuilt them. Just leave them as is and keep an eye on them.

Mine are popping when I go in reverse sometimes and the boot is ripped a little. I figured I'd buy another Napa replacement, since I've had luck out of the other one.

Thought occurred to me on the drive home: are there LCA’s that come with poly bushings already in them? None came to mind, but then again I’ve been out of the suspension game for a while.

My truck has close to 300K miles on it, so I'm replacing all kinds of shit right now. Finally got my front windshield replaced last week and got some 5% tint slapped on it too. Someone told me I could get a ticket driving through GA with dark ass tint?
