 he’s a sensitive little fella, huh?

maybe I’m just trying to motivate him by bullying him. Like “hey, stop making bitch excuses and just do the work.”

I cannot do dips because of my shoulder, so I just forget it and move on. I don’t see the point in trying to modify when at the end of the day its not the same movement anyways.

Thats my feeling on it at least.

If the program calls for dips and I cannot do them because my shoulders are restricting me I will not forget it I will find a way to do a variation so I can hit the same muscle groups even though it’s not the same exact exercise.

I went rogue this weekend & didn’t lift or stay the course with my diet plan :goingcrazy:

Back at it today though and plan on sticking to it. :muscleflexing:

And on the subject of dips, I try to do them the way Jeff Cavaliere demonstrates in his videos. He says it helps develop the lower pecs.

This is actually what I do in sub of the dips, lol. I can work a few angles and really hit tris or pecs too, depending on my body position. Love doing those!

I like it. I don’t think it’s quite Julian Smith fuckery level. I’ve seen people do dips on a lat pull down machine while standing on the seat. That’s some shit @ThunderCookies would do.

Did strengthlifts 5x5 day 1 baseline yesterday. felt good focusing on the movements and form, but damn after 3 or 4 rounds even light weight feels heavy. going to keep it up.

I’ve ran that program a few times. It definitely adds some initial strength gains but it gets so repetitive and boring. Are you using the app?

Same^^^ I’ve used it a couple times when coming off an extended lifting absence.

    What are your goals?

yeah I am using the app. day 1 wasn't boring. I will keep focusing on form and really thinking about what I am doing and how I am doing it to do it safely. Tossing in some running (half marathon training to stay in a program) and monkii (like a TRX strap) workouts to change it up.

I honestly can't remember the last time I did a weighted squat before yesterday. typically for the past few years have only been focused on body weight squats though I did body pump at the YMCA a few times with the light barbell and light weights in 2016-17, the last time I think I picked up a 45lb bar was at least 2011-ish. So rn I am focused on feeling the added weight, building up strength and maintaining proper form to avoid injury.

goals: feel stronger, create and maintain usable muscle, and feel good. I think I would love to be able to do a full, unassisted pistol squat under my body weight (<- near goal? far goal?) But I think I need some flexibility for that in addition to strength.

tbh I am not worried about the scale, as stated earlier some better habits have netted me some weight loss, now I am trying to gain some strength to feel healthier and more ready to safely handle day to day challenges (hey, 50lb bag of dog food or 33" E rated tire and rim combo, looking at you). I also realize my gains will take longer than you guys gains (thanks genetics), but I want to keep it up. So I will keep working at it.

Sounds like a good program for you and your goals. Stick with it.

you’re wrong about the gains though. You’ll have allllllll the gains while you’re still new at it. The longer you do it, the harder they are to come by.

x3 on this. Mentioned to someone else recently about the same thing. I used it coming off a couple month lifting hiatus. It's a great platform to build foundational strength, but after a month of doing the same 5 lifts, I got super bored. Doing muscle group focused workouts now, but the foundational strength gained from 5x5 is really beneficial.

Traveling this week and next so taking that time off Strongman and eating so much. I don't have a good strongman gym where I am so I'm gonna focus on some higher rep stuff to rest a little before starting comp training/bulking on Nov 11.

Felt good to just focus on an arm and chest day. Everything fairly light 8-10 reps. Even got a cute little pump!
