So to hear about this. I experienced the same in Albuquerque. It left me dumbfounded, I leave nothing in the open. The only thing that might have piqued interest, I have vet plates. I added the Toyota add on for intrusion, the microphone/glass breakage. The sensitivity can be set according to what you want, a slight rap on the windows to a busted window. It came with window stickers that you can put on.

Unfortunately, you live in California, where everything has been decriminalized to the point the police can do nothing but make a report of it. Even if a criminal is caught in the act by the police they are usually booked and released. The threshold for theft to be a felony is $950 in California now.

I drive from customer to customer most days, and see the most unbelievable shit left in plane site: cash, name brand sunglasses, prescription pill bottles, laptops, tablets, full shopping bags, cigarette cartons, it goes on and on.
I agree- we should be able to have nice things, even with unlocked doors, but some of the things I see look like thief bait, or flat stupid people.

People forget what they leave in their cars. I’m guilty of that too. I would have my headphones out in plain sight. However this time I had everything put away. The only thing they could have seen from the outside was a water bottle.

I leave cash in the car because I don’t carry any in my wallet. It’s emergency money, cash I use if I go to a concert and need to pay for parking. It’s money in case I go to a Chinese restaurant that takes cash only.

i don’t like carrying cash around because it bulks up my wallet. I’ve also lost my wallet before so if I were to lose a wallet again, I can easily cancel cards. Money is lost forever.

the same can be said about expensive stuff at home. Homes get broken in to all the time. Should people not have nice things? You would like to think your home and car are safe places. It’s a shame we can’t think that way.

I admit I leave stuff in my backseat...have my air compressor back there, a tool kit in case I need it while on the road, some fluids and other miscellaneous supplies. But I do keep them covered under a black moving blanket at all times. Glancing in my window into the xtra cab space, you wouldn't be able to tell any of that was in there under the blanket. But none the less, if someone did decide to break in and take it, that would certainly suck.

I also usually leave my wallet in my truck when I go into the gym, but this thread now has me changing that habit...especially since I live in the same area

I left my truck with the window open and pile of coins in my cup holder for a week while I left on an airplane (airport parking lot). I got back a week later to realize my mistake. Nothing was touched ! Other than a few T-Storms washed my interior. for FREE !

Needless to say, it was not SoCal.

Add me to the list. I live in a "nice" part of Irvine lol

Makes no sense I keep nothing in the truck, was this guy trying to steal lint? I have aftermarket alarm but didn't go off. Now out $200 for new window and hardware

I took a nap on the passenger side of my 3rd gen after locking the doors (seat all the way back with leg room). I woke up about a half hour later - opened the door and the alarm went off. I was wide awake at that point! Which f'ing button do you hit to make it stop!?!? It was the unlock button. Note - hit "unlock" button or key fob unlock before opening from inside - especially after a long period of time.

Why are these aftermarket alarms not going off? I have the KARR alarm installed by the dealer on my 04 and it will go off if a seed from a palm tree falls and hits the hood. Weird that they are smashing glass but not setting off the alarm

Most installers usually place a single G-sensor for alarms on the steering column and the only door that triggers the alarm is the driver door (thieves know this). If the impact isn't strong enough to "shock" the sensor, it won't even realize the truck has been tapered with. Some high end alarm install places can install glass-break sensors or several sensors around the truck, but of course there is an added cost that most people don't like. Plus you can adjust the sensitivity of the sensor to your liking. I had to turn mine down because the motorcycles in the area kept setting it off.
