I’m off work for a month.. I’m a beginner off-roader in an 18 Tacoma 4x4 OR stock... I live in Lakeside... anyone want to hit a trail in the next 1-2 weeks that won’t destroy my first new truck... it will be a different story when I won’t have to depend on my truck to get me to work

Read above theres one group for the 2nd and another on the 9th. You’d be surprised what your stock truck is capable of.

I'll have to check these out, I've had my eye on a set of BFG KO2s for my first "upgrade".

The Toyo A/T II, Yokohama A/T, or something a little less aggressive might be a better choice. The smallest size that tire is available in is a 35x12.5"...

There's a lot of areas within 1.5 - 2.5 hours of Lakeside that you can handle just fine, without any damage to your truck. I have a 19 SR 2WD as stock as stock can get. I basically drove it off the lot and straight to an OHV park lol I'm not totally new to offroading, but new to it in this truck so I'm still learning its limits. Since early September I've been to Corral Canyon OHV, Superstition Mtn, and Ocotillo a few times each. Traction boards, a shovel, and a set of recovery straps will get me out of just about anything so your stock 4x4 is definitely capable. TrailsOffroad is a good site to check out trails and plan your route in advance.

You rock. I've haven't done too much research on tires yet so this is awesome info.

Do you have the I4 or V6? Are you staying near stock tire sizes for now?

I've got the l4, and trying to stay near stock tire size. I'm in search of appropriate AT tires, and want to eventually upgrade the shocks, but I'm limited because I'm paranoid of voiding my warranty. I feel like if I do too much by my first oil change they'll notice. I plan on going in at 5000 miles as opposed to their 10,000 miles because I'm worried about metal shavings and whatnot. I just don't want the dealership to be like "Sooo....you take it offroading every chance you get..." and cause me trouble. If any of that makes sense.

Pine Valley is close. I haven't been there in a while, but we can try to set up a run for that in November.

Well, there will be more runs. Is anyone else interested? If anyone is worried about the cost of gas I could always use a passenger.

@computeruser6 I'll be in Ocotillo Wells for a group birthday that morning, they rented ATV's and buggies (I'm sticking with my truck) from 10-12. We're gonna try to run Truckhaven, Tectonic Gorge, and Coral Wash. Would it be possible to meet you guys at a trailhead instead of Santa Ysabel? Or is it better to go in a group?

Probably somewhere around that area. After their rental period is up, most people will be heading to the campground but a few people might want to ride with me and do a couple extra runs. No schedule, really. Just kinda winging it.

Sweet! Is Arroyo also called Ella Wash? The one that's literally right off of that campground? If I'm thinking of the same one, it connects to Palo Verde Wash, Short Wash, and Font's Point.
