I'm guessing you want to get into this the easy way (cheap). If so, pick up a gold pan and try your hand at panning. It's easy, you can do it anywhere, and it's fun (if you find gold:D). If you are up for reading and arming yourself with a little knowledge, get yourself a copy of Dave McCracken's book:
    https://www.amazon.com/Gold-Mining-...words=21st+century+gold&qid=1572395646&sr=8-2

If you just kill it at the gold panning, or read about another prospecting method you just gotta try, respond back here and we can throw some ideas around. I'll help ya' out!

That was my first time with a pan tonight. It was fun! Going to look into detectors, that's what I'd really like to do.

So I lost all but one detector and all of my pans, sluices, and a dredge in the stupid camp fire. With only one detector I used to make from 50-80k a year extra. That doesn't count my wages at my real job. I am almost to the point of serious debt to get one like I had.

50-80k a year? Damn. Curious how many hours you put in a year on average? Do/did you have a claim or access to private lands, or all public?

Access to private land and a few area I know in the mountains near where I live. Only a few hours a week like one day a week for about five hours total. The key is knowing the right land and what to look for. Once you figure out what you are looking for it's easy. Just remember th best tools are your eyes.

That's nothing really. There were days where I really sat and wondered if I really wanted to do anything else with my life.
When you have days that you find multiple ounces then days better than that it's a real life changing experience.
