Or Florida or Miami. It will be a Florida school. Also Bama players can now all be endorsers of the local dodge dealership so they can get their dodge challengers and chargers.

It would actually be Mercedes Benz they get to choose from since Nick and his wife co-own several Benz dealerships in Alabama and Tennessee. Lol

nope. The schools aren’t “technically” paying these kids. Will there be boosters that will promise a sponsorship or something? I’m sure. But this doesn’t mean they’re getting paid to play sports for the school. They’ll get paid for autographs, or when EA does come back and make a new NCAA game and they use their name. I suppose you can look at it as the school paying them when they get a % of jersey sales and things like that?
And yes, the assholes in govt have already said there will be legislation to steal...I mean tax...their earnings. Because that’s the American way - let someone be successful and then think you deserve to benefit from their success (by stealing part Of their earnings).

Burr is spot on with this, as any earnings obtained from endorsements and royalties from their success, is taxable income.

Now that they have opened up the Pandora's box, all benefits from their status as a college athlete becomes fair game. It's their choice if they go after the $$, but everything in life comes at a price.

Personally, I'm for eliminating ALL income taxes or go with a flat tax, but that conversation is best somewhere other than TW.

    Just my $.02, YMMV.

he doesn’t mention endorsements. He says their scholarships will be taxed. Which shows he doesn’t even know how this thing is going to work.

But, I’m all for people not having their money stolen.

this thread is already showing what this whole thing is going to turn to....political.

I don't mean politicians getting involved and taxes and all that junk, that's a different topic.

I just mean NCAAF is going to become more like the NFL, for the reasons most don't like the NFL. I'm not saying the players shouldn't benefit, and hopefully the minds greater than mine that are doing this know what they're doing, but I just don't see this being a "success" for college ball.

Joe Burrow was asked in an interview if he'd share his earnings with his offensive lineman since they won't get the jersey sales and endorsements and signatures etc etc that he would and he just said "that's a good question." Because players like QBs and RBs that become the "stars" are directly a product of their surroundings, meaning their linemen, their receivers, their whole team...but the "star" is usually the only one talked about, especially to the extent that they'd earn big bucks off this stuff. so just a big ol' middle finger to the "unimportant" positions?

Then, as if this isn't already an issue, players are going to start choosing schools based on chances of being in the limelight and where they can make a bigger buck. More and more players are going to choose the Alabama's, LSU's, Clemson's, Ohio State's of the league because of big TV time and successful schools. Sorry west coasters, no good tv time for you so why would players want to go there when they can't get any pay like they can on the east? also a school with 102k+ seats in the stadium vs a school with 75k seats in the stadium means more jersey sales in the stores and more exposure in person so why go play for a school that doesn't have as large of a fan base as another?

    idk. my .02.

I think it's both great, and horridly stupid. Guess we'll see.

a lot of bad ass stuff
I seen the % of jerseys sales mentioned several times already, in here. How would that work. most college jersey's are sold with out the names on the back, unless those players have made it to the NFL or you get a a custom jersey some where. College programs turn over the numbers every couple of years because of the nature of college ball. So is the players number going to be linked to their likeness, if there is no name on the back? Would Nike start selling jerseys with current players name on it? or will they leave the name plate plank to be a loop hole for Nike and the NCAA?

They’re sold without names on the back because they can’t put them on - because the players can’t get paid.

If college athletes are going to make money off their likenesses while in school, their scholarships should be treated like income,” Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., wrote in a post on Twitter. “I’ll be introducing legislation that subjects scholarships given to athletes who choose to ‘cash in’ to income taxes.”

Technically he did, but whatev...

It's just a short statement and the plan must go through the entire legislative process.

In case you don't know how that works...

Funny that you include LSU in that list of teams...

But if fervent loyal fan base with cash to spend... I'll toss Neb in there too :fingerscrossed::D

Gonna be interesting to watch all this play out though. I'm all for players getting a cut but trying to make it equal across the board is gonna be the tricky part so it doesn't shift the landscape to a select top group of schools.

Can we stop acting like this isn't happening?? All the top schools pay recruits in some fashion to come to their respective school, like i said earlier all this is gonna do is bring the payments out in the open and the schools that already get big recruits will continue to get big recruits...look at top 10 recruiting its the exact same schools over the past like 5-10 years for a reason, maybe some small schools will have donors with huge pockets will emerge but won't seriously contend vs the Bama/Texas/OSU etc. The NCAA will never have "level playing field" unless they move to a draft model.

Agreed. Not saying it isn't happening, cause it for sure is, but the level of which is is is muted a bit I think. The fear of pushing the envelope too far could have some help in showing restraint but now it'll open up. I am with you though that things will happen so fast and smoothly that the years of practice of paying players will come to light for all.
