Weird. You’d think the LBS would be happy to help you spend some money and give them business.

Yeah, the SLC valley has approximately 3,013,785 cars with tailgate pads on and I have never heard of one getting swiped.

Hell, we have so many people running Kuats and other pricey trays with minimal security on the pin that I could make a yearly income flipping those things if I were a shitbag.

Gotcha. Not knowing your GF worked there was the source of my confusion. Maybe I missed it or misread a previous comment.

Enjoy the new hoops. I'd love a set of Hydras, but can't justify the $$$. My current hubs have similar performance numbers to the I9 Torch, but lack the I9 bling and sound.

It's no Moab, but surprisingly decent trails here in the Dallas TX area.

I really like the idea of the reduced rotational weight from carbon wheels, but I'm afraid to pull the trigger on them. I've seen to many of them break in YouTube videos.

my shop has a handful showing up next week. At least one pre-sold, and probably one as a shop demo. We stopped stocking Ibis and brought Pivot in instead, but there have been enough people asking for this specific bike that we put an order in for five or so

Having seen lots of broken wheels from giant, enve, lite bicycles and other brands. I was on the fence about carbon wheels also. My experience with DT swiss xmc carbon wheels, which is the only set i've ever owned, has been they are bomb proof. I've ridden them all over the place in the last 3 years, never had a spoke come loose or have had any issues with my tubeless setup. During the same period Ive gone through around 4 sets of stans flows... Only thing about the xmc wheels is I wish they were wider.

Sure, shit wheels break. Aluminum or carbon.
I beat the living shit out of my NOX Farlows, three sets now. Never, ever, had a single crack or failure of any kind. Countless pinch flats, destroyed tires and all.
Giant trx on the other hand, cracked two. Smashed two aluminum dt ex471 rims too.
Riding style, terrain, build and quality are the key factors, not material.

I’m currently running carbon nox farlows on my Spartan enduro machine, and aluminum Raceface arc35 on the Django short travel ripper. The ride is very different. Carbon hoops are precise, snappy, and stiff. Aluminum takes some edge off, has some compliance, and less stiff. The weight difference is negligible, less than tire casing preference.
Go for the ride quality you’re looking for. Ignore the bs of breaking carbon or weight savings.

Had a nice ride out by Thunderbird Park here in north glendale, plenty of flat trails and small jumps were fun. Weather is perfect now a days, Just starting out, here is my baby. She feels really good although never had anything to compare with. Stumpjumper comp 27.5

having spent ten years in bike shops, and two years inside at Cannondale, I have seen more broken carbon road wheels than mtb wheels, personally.
