I just did a drain and fill on my oil. Looked pretty Amber, next drain and fill I'll send a sample. Bummed I didn't remember a Blackstone sample.

According to the owners manual you check it at 30k and change if it's been under severe driving such as towing but never specifies when to change it if you're not beating the shit out of it

This may be the case. I haven’t researched this.

Does Blackstone publish data on this stuff? It seems like fluid life is a nebulous subject and real data like this is valuable.

How do they recommend you check it?

On my test form they have baseline data points “universal averages”. These may be generic. I don’t know.

In that case why not just dump it and the filter? A sample drained out of a fill tube isn't going to really tell you much.

What's the magnet look like in the pan
What does the bottom the pan look like
What does the filter look like

Yeah it would be interesting to see stats on how long a fluid lasts on average , and how long a transmission lasts under various scenarios.

But that would be fraught with pitfalls.

The sample was drained from a running, hot transmission that was running for nearly 20 minutes. It would represent all of the oil in the tranny.

Again, I did this because I had the bottle and I could. I was checking the factory fill level (per TW group-think paranoia) and had a blackstone sample bottle on hand, so it was easy for me to do. I can not determine all the individual metal content results they have listed by looking at a magnet, but if you can, go for it.

You're missing the point? What does the filter and magnet look like? Trash sticks to magnets - shit sticks to filters.

Those are typically anti-wear addititives in the oil itself, so should be close to the universal averages, which they appear to be in my case. They are not parts of the transmission wearing away.

Sorry fella, it is you who is missing the point. You lack understanding of oil analysis.

It's more important to test what's being circulated throughout the transmission, residual shavings on magnet and filter no longer a threat.

Thank you. I don't know much about lubricants.
