3.4L supercharger

I did buy it from URD, a little over 2 years ago now. Hopefully it has that feature, I'll have to check the piggyback as I don't think I have the box for it anymore.

Good idea on getting a cheap old laptop, I'll probably go that route. I've been told I can run older versions of Windows via my MacBook laptop but haven't figured it out yet.

 

It would be nice to do quarter or half throttle at low RPMs. Flooring it caffeinates the ECU.

 

I forgot to ask or maybe already discussed. Does the TRD thermostat do anything? Is it worth it? Does cooler mean less or no pinging in low RPM?

 

I have a cooler TStat from URD. I think it came with my 7th kit. The way I understand it though is it really doesn’t do anything but open up sooner than stock? There’s no way a thermostat will lower your coolant temperature. This can only be done by removing more heat from the system.

 

I think I was going to try that with my Mac book but it was just easier to get a cheap lap top. You can try emailing Gadget and he could probably tell you if it’s built into your unit based on your order. I’m sure it is. I got mine over 5 years ago and it had it. It’s probably standard now.

 

How many here running 2.2 pulley or 2.1?

 

Makes sense. I just did the timing belt, water pump, drive belts and thermostat like 3,000 miles ago but just wondered about that T stat. It opens earlier so it’s tries to keep the temp lower. Eventually system gets soaked I guess.

 

A lower stat will give you more power a little just because the temperature of everything is lower.
If the regular stock stat keeps your truck at 190-200 lowering it 15 -20 degrees will make a difference.

Lower intake temp, lower supercharger temp etc. it’s obvious lower outside temps in winter give you more power. I have a 170 stat from rockauto (15.00) and my temps stayed at 175-180 most the time at 80-100 outside degrees temperature.

But that’s because I have an upgraded radiator that can keep the temperatures at 175.

The stock radiator can not keep the engine temperature that low when its 80-100 degrees out side tho.

 

So the scientist in me says if sea level is 14.7 PSI and DENVER is 12. If the boost gauge is calibrated/zeroed here/DENVER, isn’t it falsely reading 2.7 PSI higher? So my 7 PSi is actually 4.3? John, what do you think? Our boost gauge is over-reporting?

 

There is some type of formula I think to all that, but I’m not 100 percent sure how that works.

The higher you go the less boost we get and the lower we go the more boost we get

 

Most boost gauges would measure gauge pressure rather than absolute pressure, I would think. So your gauge is measuring 7 psi ABOVE the atmospheric pressure of 12 psi. If it was measuring absolute pressure, it would be the atmospheric pressure PLUS the boost pressure generated by the SC, or 19 psi in your example.

 

I’m thinking ... 7 above 12. Or 7 above 14.7. There is still a 2.7 PSI difference.

 

I’m doing the research to do a smaller pulley. I am seriously a scientist LOL. I’ve got some engineer colleagues that I will run this by.

 

It would be 7 above 12 because you’re in Denver.

Gauge pressure is always measured relative to the atmospheric pressure where the measurement is taken, not at sea level.

 

Agreed. So I guess the question to the shop conducting the dyno test. “What is the pressure calibrated to? Sea level or altitude. 14.7 or 12.

 

So I can run a smaller pulley that adds say 2 pounds of boost and still be safe with no fuel mods even if my gauge says 9. Cause 9 is actually 6.3, which I rarely get up to. That’s the theory anyway.

 

You're running methanol right? That should take care of it by upping the octane rating

 

John, it would be great if you can ask the shop tomorrow if the positive boost pressure is measured off a 14.7 atmospheric pressure value or a 12 value. I think the TRD PSI values are based on a sea level calculations so when TRD published 6 PSI, that means 6 PSI above a 14.7 PSI atmospheric pressure.

Oh I'm sure your truck is faster than mine, I'm on stock pulley no methanol, 33" tires and have a bunch weight on my truck lol
