Eaton Lunchbox lockers vs other automatic

Does anyone run them? What about Detroit, Aussie or AuburnGear?

 

what are you going to put this in and what are your plans for the vehicle that its going in?

 

They are going in the Hummer. Just the rear diff.

 

I'd get a ARB because with the Detroit locker you are going to have an annoying clicking noise when you turn corners.

 

What about AuburnGear or Eaton?

 

From my knowledge all automatic lockers make the clicking noise when you round corners. IMO I would save up and buy a selectable locker like a ARB, all automatic lockers are pretty much the same.

Why do you want to put a locker in your Hummer?

I know they have a tendency to "stick" but I've never heard of that problem.

Never know when you may need it. Front most likely is fine, but rear will help if there's ever a need for it.

I thought it did too, but I believe that started to be standard with the Adventure Package (like mine) in 2008. The Eaton e-Locker code for GM is G80 locker. It was an option- or could still be. There's still some no and yes sayings on whether it comes stock or not.

Any lunchbox/ automatic lockers are always locked the only time they "disengage" is when you turn a corner or are not traveling in a straight line, I would highly suggest that you do not get one of those lockers and go with a selectable one whether it be a electric one or a ARB air locker. Lunchbox lockers are intended for drag cars, or serious off-roaders

 

I suppose so. I just have to get a new "control" cluster for the locking diff button. I'm assuming its just like the Tacoma's that they are already prewired for the button and locker.

I just have to find a junked H3, Colorado, Silverado, or Tahoe that has the G80 Eaton locker in it. Then it can be a easy swap, so I've heard.

 

Thats about all Hummers are good for! But, just the small curbs.

 

I guess thats why my buddies Land Cruiser would always "hop" around corners instead of smoothly going around.

I see where your coming from. I could do either, but because its not that necessary, I most likely would do what everyone has said- Have a selectable locker.

 

How much would it be for a setup from ARB just to run a rear locker?

I saw there pricing on the E-lockers, thats why I also questioned about Lunchbox lockers. Eaton LL is about $200-$250.

I saw Aussie doesn't make any locker for a Hummer H3- only H2.

 

Wouldn't that mean I would have to change my gearing too?
