    Inside the air pump there is a little foam filter that gets hard and crunchy and falls apart damaging the blades and valves. You remove the foam filter and install this to keep that from happening. If the air pump system gets damaged it like $2500 bucks to fix.

    Most of the issues that caused the pump failure were due to moisture sitting on the fins not the foam filter falling apart, but , nonetheless people still do this mod thinking it will solve the issue, which it doesnt in most cases. There were plenty of members on this forum whose foam looked brand new , yet their pumps failed. Toyota itself stated it was due to moisture buildup.

    I asked my mechanic about the moisture, he did say the water issue was more on the tundras than the Tacoma’s. But for 10 bucks and 5 minutes it some simple insurance. We hope at least.
