I did my platform today, using the OPs instructions and it worked great! The only thing I didn't do was add the 2x9 down the middle. I found it was mostly solid enough for me. I did screw an 1x8 under the the center piece between the wheel wells for additional support though. For the carpet, all I used was a $20 6'x8' outdoor carpet. Cheap but it worked well. The carpet was glued on, and staples were used on the underside to keep it in place.

For reference, I have a Snugtop Rebel and I had no issues using 57x24" panels, they slid under the rails easily.

This is my setup. Simple to create and easy to store. I prefer to keep my bikes inside the back of the truck for security purposes and to keep them clean when traveling over the mountains to the desert in the shoulder seasons. It doesn't take up much space when traveling.

This thread was helpful to me in looking at ideas. Thanks for all who posted!

Here is what I came up with my sleeping platform and sliding storage. The only thing I'm not happy with is the middle beam is a bit warped (notice how it bends to the right). This is because I bought it from the bargain bin at Home Depot, but it also made it 70% cheaper. The slide drawer is on UHMV plastic that I cut and made into strips. There is a trap door in the back, mostly because I didn't want the slide drawer going that far back. I used a piano hinge that I cut to size. The passenger side sleeping platform easily lifts out. I wanted my design to not me permanent for two sleepers. The top is 1/2 inch plywood. With the center beam, it is plenty stable for two adults.

The driver side sleeping platform is attached via two turnbuckle into the trucks' tie downs. It won't shift or move at all with the passenger side sleeping platform removed. The carpet is indoor/outdoor and it's not a professional job, I messed it up, but it functions great.

Finally, what I like is that with the tailgate closed, and locked, the slide drawer is locked. There is no way to get to it without dismantling the entire thing. It's possible, but would take some time and tools. I consider it as secure as inside my cab. Also, everything in there is out of sight. Thanks for taking a look.

I like this a lot. Modular and dynamic is my preference for the truck bed. That’s why I have a softopper, like you. And my ghetto set up is even more simpleton than yours. But I like what you did. Might have to make something like this before the next desert adventure.

You dont need any fancy platform to sleep in the longbed. Just buy a comfy mattress with good insulation and you are set. Its the people with short beds that struggle with sleeping in their trucks.

Right, but what if I want to sleep two and it's not my wife but a climbing friend? The platform extends the sleeping area past the wheel wells and still gives room for storage. The great thing about building your own is you can consider your usage and build accordingly.
