I just bought a 2019 TRD OR DCSB 4x4 with 15 miles on it. It feels like the steering wheel is slightly to the right. I need to take it to the dealer to get it looked. Has anyone experienced something like this? New taco, off the lot with steering not aligned?!?

I gotta take in to get it looked at. I just haven't been able to make it in to the dealer at opening time to be first in line for techs.

Yea, i've only had since Monday night. Super frustrating that a new truck off the lot has a problem like this.

Just take it to the dealer. It’s not uncommon. I had the same issue with my alignment being out on a brand new vehicle and it was taken care of.

Alignments are covered no issue the first year. I've aligned a few new Tacomas, but mostly the 2016 models.

I drove mine straight from the dealer to the best alignment shop on the west side of L.A. Not a single alignment parameter was even close to being correct - and it pulled to the right as well. I would NOT rely on a dealer to do you alignment. Most simply do not know how to do it correctly and will only adjust until the arrows are in the green. Not acceptable. Yeah, it should come aligned from the factory but it's better to just buck up and pay a hundred bucks to have it done right and know it's right and be done with it. And depending on how you drive, you may want to be on one end or the other or even slightly out of range on some of the adjustments. Good luck.

Yup it’s possible to be off as the dealer is responsible for checking all new vehicles they receive from the manufacturer... Obviously the person assigned to check your vehicle didn’t follow the procedure outlined by Toyota. It’s a flat rate job probably pays two hours he gets it done in an hour now he’s ahead an hour at your expense.

welp... i feel slightly better about the whole thing knowing it's not unheard of. 40k truck with misaligned steering is still frustrating as hell though. I'll let y'alls know how it goes.

It happens during transport, just have the dealer fix it. But it should have been caught before hand.

your advice is just as dumb.. its very easy to tell if your correcting for crown in the road or bad alignment.

fyi the green section on an alignment spec has a large margin for error and alot of alignment techs do not care enough to try and get the vehicle adjusted to the middle zone of the spec. It makes alot of sense to try to find a good shop that will take a bit more time and get it right. Some techs have even been known to have a buddy sit in or push on the vehicle to make it look like its within spec when they go to print the sheet out.

OP: my 2019 was out of spec on total toe, the factory just pumps them out and they dont have time to get it right 100% of the time. theyd rather have a 60% hit rate on good alignments then slow down the line and try for 100%. Its easy to push the 40% misses onto the dealer techs, standard buisness practice.

Yours was out for sure I get that, but 90% of new alignments I do rarely need any camber or caster adjustments, the tacomas and tundras are usually bang on.

I saw big issues with other models due to transport. It's how its strapped down and for how long.

Toyota and its techs are far better than you give them credit. You paid a shop to do something that was covered. This is dumb.

It’s called a Yaw sensor, and it auto “centers” the wheel. If the sensor isn’t reset when an alignment is done, the wheel will return to what it thinks is center, which will have the wheel turned when your driving straight.
It will not cause any premature tire wear or any other issue, it’s just bugging for ppl with OCD like me

My wheel was a little to the left, it drove straight and true though. I took it to the dealer and they changed my complaint of "steering wheel not straight, car drives straight NOT A ALIGNMENT ISSUE" to "car pulls to the left"

Well, they didnt fix it right, when I complained they said anything within 5 degrees of level on the wheel is normal... completely ignoring the fact that they didnt even do what I asked them to do.

In short, make sure the advisor writes it up correct.

Mine came off the lot with bad alignment. Both wheels toed out so the truck would wander all over the road like a drunk.

none of that is remotely true whatsoever.. please educate yourself on basic vehicle alignment before you try to reply to an alignment thread

my point exactly.. incompetent techs trying to get out of doing work, at the DEALER. just because they have a logo on their shirt doesnt mean they give two f**** about helping you.
