I DIY with aerosol cans. Kinda crude, but it's really quite easy to apply, and there are what seem to be plenty of holes for interior access to panels and frame.

I have a 2016 and I'm from Wisconsin. I got the letter Wednesday and was told to get an inspection, then they decide if I get a frame replacement or coating.

Spare us the false bravado. This frame rust thing is just another corporate externality, and they love it when their gambles and failures are perceived as another chance for a tough guy to get his man card stamped. Good luck explaining your rationale to whoever you want to sell or trade your truck to down the road.

LOL, I assume your a big fan off the Toyota coating. I also also understand you have no ability to maintain the frame yourself. Carry on .

Well thanks for commenting on something that "doesn't apply to you." Real valuable addition to the conversation.

    I have.
    You have.
    Everyone here has.

Here's the thing though, some of us (not you, you tough guy masterful auto maintainer you, we all humbly bow to your superior preservation abilities) would like to make sure our trucks are eligible for frame replacements when it's needed. So, we need to follow the regulations. Now, perhaps you could kindly piss off seeing as how all this is so clearly beneath you.

Yep, unfortunately it's not a "recall". I think it's referred to as a service bulletin or inspection.

I am in California and recently bought a 2014 Tacoma from a person that originally bought the truck in California, drove it in California and sold it to me in California. Will I get a letter from Toyota to bring the truck in for the CRC treatment or are California based trucks exempt?

Why not let them do the CRC. Then get it home and do the Fluid Film over it :notsure:

Don't see why not, CA gets plenty of snow too. But best bet is to call Toyota corporate with your VIN and they'll let you know about any service bulletin and extended warranty that applies to your truck. And you can avoid the gossip of TW.

I bought my 2000 Taco in California in 01'. Put 265K on it.... not one spot of rust.

Got the bulletin letter in 2009 and took it in for coating anyhow, because Toyota said to. That's just me.

My 2004 just got a new frame. Because it fell within 15 years of first use, was sold in Vermont, had the coating applied when the bulletin came out and failed inspection at the dealer.

Assuming that Toyota would not know of any ownership changes so I went on line and added this vehicle to my list of three other Toyotas that I own. I guess this may apply to us in Cali as I plan to run mine on the beaches of Baja soon as all the retros are done.

It covers the truck, not the owner
