I say we (as a country, provided we can agree on one thing for a brief moment) assemble a team of Liam Neesons and Denzel Washington’s and take a few steps back and let them do their work.

The really funny aspect to this whole discussion it that we are all driving secure steel encasements that transport us with minimal input:

    Power steering
    Power brakes
    Power windows
    Etc, etc, etc.

Yeah, we turn the steering wheel...wow.

Accelerator and brake pedals- what a workout!

We open and close the doors- hard core.

We operate switches with our massive muscles...lol

Oh, and the MT guys select their gears- lots of extra hand and foot work there- bravo.

    So much different.

I don’t think that anybody really hates manual transmissions. What I don’t like is people who think that they are special because they drive a standard. It doesn’t take all that much skill to drive a synchronized manual shift transmission, 16 year olds can learn it in an hour. If you like a standard, good for you but if you want to feel superior, you need bigger skills than that.

Ok, let me begin by answering your question as to "what happened"... I got tired of driving a stick. I don't want to anymore. It's really as simple as that.

Now, as far a this whole thing, here's what happened... A few other gentlemen & myself were admittedly fucking with each other, which we all clearly stated. Nothing either of us said was ever directed towards you. But suddenly, your sensitivity radar alerted you to what couldn't possibly be a joke. You immediately sprung in to action, responding to me, calling my words to the other gentlemen "horse shit", & then assuming that you knew something about my feelings inside, which is super weird by the way. Now, I've never been one to back down from anything, so I replied to your post stating that people are different, blah, blah, still with a joking demeanor. Now this is where your skills started to, uhh, shine, if you will. You continued to make uninformed "guesses" about me & my life, which you couldn't possibly know anything about, & I would bet a large sum of money on that. It's just a rookie move when debating someone. Some would even say that it's Little League. Many years ago, in my psychology classes, I learned that this guessing thing was called projection; a defense mechanism where people would deny their own insecurities & attribute them towards others. But that's besides the point. I can only hope that it makes sense to you going forward.

In conclusion, not one thing you stated about me was even remotely close to being correct, & I would honestly tell you if you were. I promise. Nothing said was ever was taken to heart, by me anyway. I don't even know you, therefore it is ridiculously easy for me not to care about you at all. & I don't. That is also a promise. We can bet on that too. So go & shift the hell out of that stick if you enjoy it. I won't because I don't. Neither way is wrong.

But just remember, if all else fails, you keep shifting, dude

I'll admit, that last part was just for you.

For the record, I was totally goofing with the whole "heroes" thing. You're right, we're not special.

I DO think people who teach others to drive a manual are special, and it's much more difficult than you say. These kids don't get a chance to use the skill much because there aren't many around. Sure, they can learn the basics in an hour, but that doesn't make them good at it.

I never said that they would be good at it in an hour. I said it takes an hour to learn it. They probably need another hour or two to master it.

“Engagement” isn’t limited to being physical...and I’m not sure where the implication of difficulty came from.... also nobody’s saying m/t is physically taxing... or challenging.

Not sure if you’re trying a strawman or really not getting it.

I’ve rarely come across anyone that can drive a manual, more or less a pretentious manual driver. What’s FAR more common (ESPECIALLY amongst the insecure truck bros) is people who CAN’T drive a manual, feel SUPER insecure about it (because they don’t want to feel like someone can do something that they can’t) and so they shitpost all over the Internet/social media (a la this post) looking for other insecure bros to console them until they feel less inferior. Was this post started by a manual driver acting smug or an aforementione insecure bro who’s defense is ALWAYS “dude, it was just a joke...” when their shitty post goes exactly as they thought? Yea. The latter.

Most people I come across that can drive a manual don’t think anything of it. Manual vs auto has never been a point of contention in the other enthusiast groups Ive been a member of. Just the tacomabros.

I like driving a manual. I completely agree there is no practical reason to drive one (worse MPG, didn't save me anything on purchase price) except maybe theft prevention from millennials. I don't look down on anyone that drives an automatic, there are legitimate reasons to drive an automatic other than "I think it's fun". I even admit it's stupid to drive a manual these days, but I enjoy it so I drive one. If I broke my leg on a camping trip with the gf I would be screwed because she can't drive my truck. Also we can't take turns driving on a long road trip. Thinking about teaching her but not sure I want to put that much wear on my brand new clutch.

Not sure why you “quoted” me in there. Don’t lump me in with any group. I drive an automatic to work and a 10 speed at work so not only do I know how to drive a non synchronous transmission, I can drive an easy one like you have, too. I chose an automatic in my Tacoma because I don’t want to work while driving my pick em up truck.

I'm making no guesses about you or your life. I don't care! I'm also not projecting. I'm packing... my shit to go to a cabin in the woods this weekend and ravage my wife. I don't give AF if you do it missionary with your girl in the dark or with your brother in the basement. Neither of which applies to me. I do give credit to the defense mechanism you're employing though. Very creative.

And I'll have to look and see who posted first, but as my last post indicated, it's ALWAYS "I'm just joking" when shit goes sideways for you haters... you post hate-filled crap on the internet for no purpose but to be inflammatory toward a group that you're not a member of and then it's "Just joking guys... settle down". What did your psychology class say about that same story over and over again? I think it's just sad. What a sad way to spend your time -- starting shit with strangers on the internet "just for kicks".

I am loving this thread lol I have an automatic and can drive a manual just as good if not better than I can drive an automatic. However I do think it is funny as hell how people on this forum act like they are seasoned F1 drivers with giant donkey balls because they shift their own gears in their 200 hp Asian trucks.

I was replying to your post about all these pretentious, man-bun wearing, latte sipping manual drivers that you come across all the time. Just mentioning that I don't see that (but I don't hang around hipsters) and that I mostly see the OTHER side starting crap about "Auto vs. Manual"

I too enjoy and always advocate for a manual. I don't look down on anyone until/unless they start shit and it's usually in the form of "What's up with all these manual guys thinking they're so awesome?" when, like I said, I RARELY see that happening. What's far more common is this very thread. People who DON'T drive manuals needlessly calling out people who prefer them for no reason but to start shit. Then they cry "joking" when the shit gets started. It gets played out over and over and over and over again... and not just with Auto vs. Manual.... it's Sport vs. Off road... long bed vs short bed.... pro vs built offroad.... anything you can think of, the tacomabros will turn into a polarized argument just for the sake of trying to feel superior (because they're insecure) and then when called on it it's "just kidding man, chill"... Sad.

Then go look. Doing your research first is always a great idea. & you did make assumptions about me, many of them. Again, reread... It was a joke, trying to be funny. That thought process happened before the first key stroke was made. MANY of my postings begin with the same wit intended. Well, until some super serious jackass internet douche comes along uninvited and attempts to spoil the fun that many or having, except himself, of course. & you're wrong again, lol. I enjoy funny, reading funny, saying funny, doing funny, my definition of funny, the same way that you enjoy your hand on a cold, hard stick when driving. You said it before, "To each their own". But maybe you forgot that too. Just go back and reread. It will serve you well... Keep shifting, dude
