That's the more "legit" definition, but in the days of IG and when everyone wants to be labelled something...yeah

That said, I leave my shit in my truck 24/7. I used to take it out and honestly its easier to just leave it in. Plus going from office to on the road in the amount of time it takes to get gas and some snacks is pretty legit. I avoid using the "O-word" though. I don't rate that term in my eyes.

This is really what it is, it's marketing. Marketers need to sell their company's stuff. So, hopping in your truck with your tent and sleeping bag is boring. So now, you're going "overlanding" and you MUST have all these things to do it. And then sales come and companies make money. It's like that with really everything, especially with IG and influencers and social media.

And I can definitely see the ease of not removing and being ready to go. This guy I see everyday, he's on the same 40 mile commute as me and I think that while I didn't buy a truck for gas mileage he's got to be spending a fortune with an additional 500 Lbs of stuff on his truck everyday.

Long trips are the best. I recall many miles spent in the back seat of a suburban listening to a walkman and reading a book or looking out the window. Kids these days don't know what they're missing.

That seems to be the consensus I've heard on Urals - great when they're running. But, they're basically a BMW from WWII, so that sort of makes sense.

Yeah, it's pretty gross in the big scheme of things. I actually live down the street from one of the former X Overland cast members, and you know who is barely on IG, etc cuz he's out doing cool stuff all the time? That guy.

I agree with your post, but you have neither the brains, nor the balls to take your truck to the remote areas I have visited. My Tacoma has been beyond your feeble mind’s possibilities, so yes, I sample my oil. I’m not talking your safe and sound lower 48.

Exactly. But for the most part, Walkmans weren't even a thing yet for me. We just had the AM radio and conversations. It was great!

They're headquartered near here and the word was that the newer ones were better. It was a lie, and mine ran better than others. It was a fun experience though. No regrets with the Taco, except that I need to stop buying shit.

That's me. I used to remove my bed bars and RTT when I wasn't camping within a few weeks, but it's a pain to constantly remove and reinstall so it all stays attached. I also have a garage that is only large enough to fit my motorcycle, so storage space is limited.

If I'm going camping out on a wheeling trip, i have one large box with all my camping gear, recovery/tools bags and a bag for clothes and hygiene stuff and I'm ready to camp for the weekend.
