Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Make sure you use the correct fluid in the tranny also.

There is no Fill tube. Its a sealed unit. There is a Fill plug about halfway up the side of the tranny. It will look like the fill plug on the rear diff.

^^^ Best Thread ever. Worth the time to read.

Definitely change the oil again. Eat the cost of the oil you put in it, drain ALL of the oil and start over.

For those advising him to just re-fill the Tranny fluid he drained... Isn't it a sealed tranny? Shouldn't he have to tow the truck to the dealership and have it done there?

Good luck to you, buddy. Your story should be a warning to all... READ and MAKE SURE first! It's a PITA if you don't.

Yeah...no kidding. But that idea makes so much sense they won't do it. lol

I guess if they do put on a sticker, they'll end up with less people showing up at the service departments giving out their hard earned money to them.

Clearly I took to long to write my previous response... I should have known Chris would be all over it.

Sad, but I bet that's exactly the reason they don't make it more clear. SURELY they've heard complaints from Do-It-Yourselfers over the years, but the don't make it any more obvious.

If I were you, I'd refill the tranny, run it for a little while and change the fluid out again. If there are any metal shavings from running it without fluid, I would think you'd want to flush them out as much as possible. May be a waste of money but that's what I'd do if it were my truck.

OP, a little story to make you feel better, my cousin drained his oil put the fill plug back in, went in to grab lunch, got sidetracked and went out for a drive a few hours later. Ended up costing him $4,000 for a Jasper engine.

Lookit the oily spots around the allen socket plug...wonderin' if he 'drained' the tranny fluid check port?? In which case nothing done to the tranny.

    Just a guess.

But what about overfilling the engine oil to the tune of 5qts....hmmm

Lets hope for the best OP.

Yup we were noobs once. Larry has a point though. Read, research, read and research, heck before I did my first oil change I drilled the whole thing well into my head. I printed the DIY oil change and had it with me during the procedure. If I had doubts, I stop and ask TW. In our gun club we had this belief: Its better to ask a stupid question than commit a stupid mistake.

OP is man enough to : 1. Do oil change himself
    2. Admit his mistake sought advice.

X2. If only a quart or so came out of the tranny, no harm should be done. Over filling the engine by 5 quarts is a bad thing though...

the total amount of tranny fluid that came out was about 1.3 liters.

being the genius that I clearly am with auto-mechanics, i drained the final .3 liters last night thinking I was still draining the overfilled oil.

So, the tranny was not totally dry for the drive....

I'm draining the REAL oil pan now.

    recap:

-drained 1.3 liters out of tranny overflow plug
-drained 9 qrts of oil out of the overfilled oil pan.

Will refill engine oil with 5-6 qrts (will start with 5 and go from there)
Will refill tranny fluid with 1.3 liters of Toyota WS ATF fluid

If damage is done, am I looking at busted seals, new trany, engine, truck, and busted checkbook..?

So look at this: It appears I only drained out about 1/4 of the tranny fluid, so not a true dry tranny.

Main issue I suppose would be the 9 quarts of oil in the engine...
