Can anyone comment on the ride quality with front set at the 5th setting on a second gen?

We actually haven't tested 3rd gen specific suspension on 2nd gens so unfortunately I can't help you with this.

Thank you so much @crashngiggles for thinking of us though :)

Do you have lift numbers of trucks with 2nd gen 6112’s? Like if a third gen truck is gaining 2” on the 5notch which claims 2.5” on a second gen. Would that mean ideally the 6/5 notch on a third gen claiming 2” of lift would get a second gen truck 2.5”?

Not sure about that. What it seems is the 3rd gen 6112's get a bit less lift because the trucks are approx one inch higher from the factory. But since your shocks are set at 6/5 and they have 650 springs that would net at least 2.5" maybe 3"on a 3rd gen assuming the front end doesn't have any added weight. So on a 2nd gen I would guess you will see 2-2.5" of lift with those. Basically if someone with a 3rd gen whose running that same setup can confirm then you'll be approx 1/2 to 3/4" less than theirs. Just an educated guess based on what I know about these. I've moved mine around a few times and have been in this thread since the beginning.

I’m all over the place trying to nail this down. Right now my thought is kind of here: 3rd gens are 1” higher stock. So if the 3rd gen 6112’s gain them 2” of lift, that would essentially mean its 3” higher than a 2nd gen truck. I’m confused why this wouldn’t mean the 3rd gen 6112’s dont just give a 2nd gen truck 2” of lift. This is assuming 600lb springs on the 6/5 clip setting.

side question, where does the 3rd gen gain this inch higher when stock?

If you go on headstrong’s website and look at the product pages for the 3rd Gen and 2nd Gen 6112’s there are charts at the bottom of each product that are Bilstein’s estimated lift heights for each model. Use that as your guide. If my memory serves me correctly the 3rd Gen 6112s net about 1/2” less lift on those trucks so I would think they would potentially top out at 3” of lift at max settings on a 2nd Gen.

This is all theory though, but should get you close.

It looks like you have a Pro model. So if thats true you already have 6112's set at 1.75" IIRC? Correct? Id just leave it alone if it was me. What are you looking to net out of this again?
this^ - so basically since you have the 650 spring that will effectively compensate for the difference between the 2nd and 3rd gen shocks. So use the 2nd gen lift chart (over a basic 2nd gen not a pro). Damn you are making this very confusing. Just put them on and you will see about 1/2 to 3/4" over your pro setup.

So the guy that I purchased them from, had them on his third gen and told me he got about 2 3/8” of lift with the 650lb spring.

@oscolivar1 said the same thing basically and recommended keeping them at 6/5. I think I will install them and see what I end up with.

Yeah, I have the pro with the 6112. The passenger front has a leak. My stock leaf pack is shit so currently I’m at 21.75-22” front and 21 rear from hub to fender. I want it to sit level or with a slight rake so I have a new leaf pack with the icon 3 leaf all. Keeping the OL leaf in should put me at 23-24 correct? So then with the new 6112’s hopefully gaining me 2-2.5 will put my front at 22.5-23?

If you can at all afford to do it, skip the 3 leaf and go straight to the Dakar Mediums. I promise you won’t regret it. I wasted a lot of time and money trying to band aid my sorry factory leafs with the 3 leaf AAL.

I just never have any weight back there other than my dog or dirt bike so I didn’t think a full leaf pack would ride that great for me. Am I wrong? I have this leaf pack already so I will go with that for now. At least the rear is super easy to change things.

Ah I misread your post. You’ve already got a new leaf pack on hand. Gotcha, good deal. That setup with the 3 leaf will ride really nice. I loved the ride quality the 3 leaf AAL gave. It just didn’t handle weight well.

I’m hoping that refreshing the suspension all around plus the clamshell bushing will significantly improve the ride of my truck. New tires soon and then possibly UCAs if needed down the road and I should be set. My main concern is figuring out this clip setting situation lol

skip the 3 leaf AAL. I tried to justify that I didn’t need them to but ended up not liking them. stock leaf pack sucks PERIOD!

I installed 2nd gen 6112s on the top(5th)notch and 5160/HS 3 leaf AAL with overload in. I got 2.5” in front (which is exactly what the chart says to expect)and 2” in the back which puts me at 23” hub to fender all the way around. For reference the only extra weight I have is a extang solid fold tonneau and sliders.

With the added weight of the Mobtown skids, bumper and winch, sliders. I upgraded my front springs to 700#, Eibach's. Preload was set at 5/4.
Ride on the street is nice and smooth, offroad have been good.
Here's a short clip you can see them moving nicely without so much preload that I climb the front needlessly into the sky.
It was a slick mess in that clay btw:

So ive had 6112s on for about half a year now, pretty much all of it with BAMF skid trilogy on. recently i put on a BAMF front bumper and the ride became unbearable. swapped in 650 lb springs yesterday and i couldnt be happier. so now, with the dakar medium duty leaf pack and 5160's in the rear, im at about 22.5" in front and 24" in the rear, hub to fender. fronts are set on the 4th notch with a 1/4" spacer on driver side. couldnt be happier. well, thats a lie, ill be happier when i get a rear bumper and level it out a little more.
