    Rough. Sorry to hear.

It's nice that you tried to help, never feel useless for that. My roommate is a firefighter with paramedic skills so I am trying to get myself a medical kit sorted too.

Its not fun having to see something like this. Reason I never continued to pursue it as a career, my 24hr clinical saw two DOA by decapitation and an amputation within three hours of one another. Forget carrying a first aid kit there are times they will suffice but I've learned to carry an oh fuck(IFAC) kit. As a previous Wilderness EMT I highly advise taking a first aid class but don't just take the basic crap(Red/Green Cross) it doesn't help really unless you cut yourself with a butter knife. I suggest talking with your local community college or fire department they usually hold more advanced/practical courses for the public.

WFR and WFA is great but the whole point to those courses is to train you to be with the patient for an extended period of time, which means dealing with medications, evacuations and remote care for illnesses that need to be treated in a hospital. They are fun courses but not much of the content learned is useful in an urban setting.

Don’t forget that certain first aid kit supplies do have a use by date.

Also, if you have a group insurance plan from your employer you may have benifits that cover the cost of a first aid kit as part of your plan. When we were on the United federal group plan they covered the entire cost of a high end kit built into a Pelican 1550 EMS case.

Not always, They did one on the accident I was in a couple months back in the 4runner cause the guy behind me was in bad shape. Usually just means they're in critical condition doesn't necessarily mean he passed..glimmer of hope
