    I took ALL my layers!

    Hey Robert

    How’s it going Maner

Ladies and gentlemen the results are in. 176.0 miles on the tank. Compensating 7.5% for the speedo error brings it up to 189.2. That tank took 16.8 gallons to fill.

    Drumroll please

    11.25mpg!

    Down from 12.75

Can you track with GPS? I drive the last tank mildly aggressive and mostly city and came out to 12.9 mpg. I hit 4k room several times.

There's no way you should get that bad of mileage without a noticeable rich condition (smelly exhaust), rough running engine or fuel leak.

Yeah. I found there was an error, albeit slight, using just math. I confirmed my GPS with Google maps for distance traveled to ensure miles is as close as possible. That added an additional .4 mpg and had been consistent with every mapping feature I've used for distance traveled. Tire temp and road conditiion can account for a slight error using math conversions, so I use GPS tracking.

If it smells rich, that's a definite sign. Mine has no exhaust smell at all.

Not great timing but at least I heard the noise right at start up so it didn’t fly like that.

    Yep, pretty crappy.

But, there is some good luck. The SAPD flies the same model helicopter so their tech has all the right tools to do the job and Airbus is out of Grand Prairie. So i flew down to SA in one of the other helicopters, landed at the SAPD hangar (which was pretty cool itself)

    AA97E31E-9289-4F40-BA9F-B01E659E9F1F.jpg

and flew back to Austin. Airbus is on their way with the replacement guard and cooling fan and our mechanic is already pulling the other fan out. It’ll be a long night but it should be up and running before dawn.

The fan would have gone through the oil cooler. Oil would have sprayed out and caught fire, the engine would most likely quit as well.
