Police respond to pair of violent gang incidents

LAS CRUCES - Police responded to two reports of purported gangs violently crashing private parties just a mile apart within nine minutes Saturday.
It's unknown if the party attendees were acquainted with any of their unwanted guests, according to Las Cruces Police Department spokesman Dan Trujillo, who said despite "strong similarities" it is unknown if the attacks are related.
Officers responded to the first affray at 2:20 a.m. at the intersection of Idaho Avenue and Locust Street and found a "large group" of people pushing each other outside a house.
Two of the home's tenants said they'd noticed 20 to 30 "gangster individuals" outside, trying to come in. The alleged intruders, all described as Hispanic males with shaved heads, wearing black-and-red clothing and appearing to be "gangster types," had to be physically removed from the home, prompting the group to bang on the door and windows and then throw a brick through a window.
Some of the partygoers allegedly left the home with pool cues to fight the intruders, prompting them to throw bottles of alcohol, one of which struck the home's owner, leaving him with a swollen, bloody eye, an injury to the right side of his face and blood on his lips, according to the report.
The owner and others from the party were transported to the hospital for medical attention, but police were unable to immediately find their attackers and urge anyone with information on the incident to call central dispatch at (575) 526-0795. While police were responding to the first call, they received another report of an affray in progress - also involving weapons and a large group of people, just a mile away, at the intersection of John and Bromilow streets.

Officers arrived to see a 13-year-old swearing and yelling a gang allegiance as he pushed, punched and kicked a man - the home's owner - who appeared to be getting away from him, according to the police report. An officer Tasered the teen twice when he allegedly refused to roll onto his stomach to be handcuffed and tried to run away - after which the teen continued to yell his gang allegiance.
Steven Gabriel Martinez, 20, who allegedly appeared to be running to the officer with fists up, was Tasered by another officer, according to police reports. Martinez was charged with resisting arrest, but not jailed.
The 13-year-old allegedly continued to kick his legs and get away from the officer as he was taken to the police car, where he had to be forced in, according to the report. Once in the car, the teen allegedly began kicking the bars inside the car and banging his head against the partition.
The homeowner told police the teen and several other "gang members" had come to his home uninvited, and when he tried to remove the teen, he started throwing punches and yelling gang allegiance at the homeowner and another, unidentified, individual. Juvenile Probation and Parole did not authorize detention of the boy, who was criminally cited for public affray and resisting arrest. The teenager was transported to the Las Cruces Police Department, where he was picked up by his mother.

I love that line that the home owner appeared to be getting away from him, because the guy was getting his ass kicked by a 13yo! LMAO

Once the officers tend to pull out the ar's people tend to calm down a little quicker. I can't second guess the officers but they did there jobs and remained safe. I respond with other officers in Albuquerque in a similar way. The calls come very quickly and sometimes the information is very limited due to multiple callers and the differences in information they each give. Officers respond in different ways depending on slight differences in training and personal experience and knowledge. Yes an AR15 could be helpful but they also tend to get in the way for calls involving large numbers of people. If they feel like fighting you you can't just shoot. But again the officers involved then used what they felt to be the appropriate response for the incident at hand.

dang. 20-30 sized group of anybody who don't have badges and a warrant will most definitely be greeted with violence trying to force their way into my home. brick through the window would be the last straw for me. two shots into the ground...those that still don't disperse get free copper and lead injections. you just know there's gonna be one guy in the crowd who doesn't think i have what it takes...guess who gets shot first?

LEO's? would this situation qualify for justified lethal action? i know, for the judge to decide...but how about in your personal opinion?
