Changing fluids, what do you fluids are you guys using

So I'm planning on changing my transmission fluid and diffs. What fluids do you guys recommend? Thanks in advance

I see Amsoil, Redline and Mobil1 recommended around here frequently. In my travels around TW, it doesn’t seem like one brand in particular is the be all, end all.

I will certainly be monitoring this thread for feedback and suggestions.

 

I switched from Amsoil to Red Line on my transmission and it seems to work better make my gears feel like butter, with Amsoil 3rd gear always was a little hard to get into but after putting in Redline that disappeared over a few months of driving 5000 miles Or so, that's just my situation tho

 

I need that butter ^. My gearbox is a bit notchy for my liking.

 

I'll try to see if I can find some redline and give you guys an update on what I think, hopefully so day .

have sticky 2nd and 3rd, almost clunky, hopefully nothing worse is going on!
running mobil currently almost 17k miles, guess i try the red line soon

 

If you haven’t replaced the shift bushing it’s a must,

had these parts done earlier this year when needed Transmission shifter reseal due to a small developing leak under neath

 

It’s an easy job that will take 30 minutes to do and possibly replace the rubber shift boot
as it’s 20 years old too

 

do you think they missed replacing parts on mine? that was the part list they gave me and these were the parts returned

it would probably take me at least that long to figure out how to get the whole console out and put back together properly afterwards since i have never removed it myself before, probably just 8 or 10 screws and untwist shifter knobs

 

Once you do it’s very simple a few screws and punch type pins.

Looks like you actually had the gasket fail so those parts are correct but you should have had the collar
there too, I actually missed mine the 1st time because it looks like part of the inside hosing covered in grease

 

and the collar is what will give a smoother feel to shifting between 1st/2nd/3rd ?

because nothing much changed after these parts were changed
especially when its cold its bad.
it gradually gets better once I have been on the road for awhile and everything down in there warms up some

 

I replaced all the parts at the same time and fixed the issues I had before of stiff shifting except the 3rd gear that worked its self out with redline.
If your in there you replace ALL the parts for the shifting there. It’s a 10.00 part.
Would be silly not to replace that plastic collar

 

Nothing too special. Valvoline MaxLife for transmission. Mobil1 75-90 diffs and transfer case. Lucas Marine in the drive shaft and anything else that requires grease.

Yes Redline for the tranny and diffs. I really like Royal Purple for the engine oil.
