FB3FFE10-1A50-491D-829F-127DBA5B0C4A.jpg I have a 2018 trd off-road with ~20500 miles.. for the 15k and 20k service I told them at highway speeds there is a bad vibration and it sounds like a helicopter taking off.. they told me they couldn’t find anything every time and it was prob dirt in my wheels or a rear mudflap.. fast forward to yesterday.. driving from NJ to MD and it’s still happening, figure I’ll drop it off at a MD dealer while I’m here.. long story short they find my axle is falling out (see pic).. now I’m in Md, need to get home and it’s going to take a few days for them to take it apart see what else is damaged and why it happened etc... I have no lift or aftermarket parts that could have caused this, Ive only had services from my normal Toyota dealership..

Anyone else have an issue like this from the factory??
Anyone know how this could have happened?
What would you do in this situation in regards to your vehicle, calling corporate, the original dealership, etc...

Hopefully just the c-clip! But damn if that ain't some shit if it wasn't installed from factory or busted already! If its busted its probably in the diff they'll have to pull it apart and take a peek!

Good thing you weren’t lifted. Or anything else. It’s all on them.

Driver or passenger side? If drivers side, poorly designed needle bearing could have failed? A lot of problems with them even non lifted but more so after its lifted.

That's a new one. Never heard of that side as it has a different bearing arrangement. Keep us posted and good luck.

I don’t think there should be that play for the axle to move that far. I mean it’s not like the steering knuckle can increase it’s distance from the differential with the suspension all bolted down.

Perhaps try taking it to an independent shop and have them break the axle nut loose, push back in the CV and retorque.

Afterwards, maybe do a front diff fluid change, which you could do on your own.

Also, think about getting AAA Premier, they’ll tow up to 200 miles.

Record number of Tacoma’s sold and millennial drivers not a good combo.

There’s only issues because it is some much more popular than any of the previous Tacomas. Those were dull trucks no one really liked or bought. The 3G Tacoma is what is having people abandon their Subaru’s for a truck, so you have some early new-model teething pains, coupled with a bunch of new truck people, coupled with them selling billions of them, coupled with the age of Internet forums. It’s a perfect storm of complaining.

If you are one of these nerds who drives a T4R, you should really get a cool Tacoma, and maybe get a girlfriend too if it’s ok with your mom. You are truly missing out.

That’s classic group-think. T4R form-factor sucks and the truck looks like balls. If you’ve had tacos in the past, you know what you are missing. 1G and 2G don’t hold a candle to the new model. You just gotta think your way through the internet mine-field of negativity and realize these trucks are so much more popular than the old Tacos, and the 4Runners, because they are simply a better and more exciting vehicle to own.

Every single die-hard 4Runner owner I’ve ever met is this guy. I don’t know what it is. It’s the off gassing of that Japanese plastic or something.

This guy is like a messiah to the t4R crowd:
