Well, it’s inconvenient as hell but I would not drive it like that. Needs to be fixed.

Rental car, loaner, airplane, whatever to get home and come back later after fixed. Lots of options. None of them fun.

But paying out of pocket to have a third party fix it would not be an option I would consider. Only an authorized warranty service provider.

No vehicle should ever have a problem at 31K, but an awful lot of 3rd gens have major problems even before this milage. Sell it and buy something else. Your nightmare is just starting. Good luck.

All of them, the motor that is in the 3rd gen should have never been installed. Toyota failed us.

Toyota should have hired you to design the 3rd gen.

Couldn't make it more than 5 minutes. Is this the definition of "overlanding"? I still don't get it...

It’s a T4R thing. I went to one of their local get-togethers, but didn’t understand the rules, so was asked to leave.

I would not say an "awful lot."

I've yet to meet a real-life Tacoma driver outside of Tacomaworld (you know. in real life..) that has anything negative to say about this truck. I've owned or driven every type of Toyota pickup over the last 35 years. My 3rd gen blows them all away. I'm over 70K miles and my truck drives better than new. No leaks, squeaks or problems.

I'd call my dealer that couldn't find the issue and tell them I need a ride home.

This has been my experience as well, TW is a cesspool sometimes. It'll make you hate your truck.

    This presents a problem.

    Who to believe?

A bunch of "virtual" Tacoma experts who have never owned, or maybe even driven one telling everyone what a POS the third gen is...

    Or you?

Thanks for adding additional "reality" to the discussion.

My Tacoma is four years old this month, almost 50k trouble free miles.

Hope OP gets this issue resolved.
