$20 is a great price even for the SR! but the W12 is an absolute steal.

I like Wild Turkey 101 for what it is and I think Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit is a really nice tasting whiskey, but the Rare Breed is one of the few whiskies I've bought then flat out given away. I just didn't care for it at all. I offered up samples to the whiskey crew, then one of them took the rest home. Most of them liked or really liked it.

I know I'm in the minority, as it's a pretty popular bottle among most circles. That means more for everyone else!

If I happen across a buddy with the 116 proof, I'll give it another whirl.

The last few years, I've bought a bottle of Wild Turkey to have with Thanksgiving.

    I've done:

    101
    Rare Breed
    Kentucky Spirit
    Longbranch

Not sure what I'll do this year. Maybe Forgiven if I can find one? Otherwise it's on to the rye or the Master's Keep, though I don't feel like dropping much coin for the novelty.

Maybe I'll just get a Russell's Reserve and call it a day. Same distillery, so it counts, right?!?!

    How cool is that?

The history within the walls of the American distilleries I visited was great; I can only imagine how great it must be out there in Scotch country!

I believe they were a great price because of where the liquor store was located, it seemed like there main sell was bud light and keystone but they did have these in locked case.

I know I couldn't believe it for the price, was hopeful that they had a few extras in the back but all they was the 2

Lol...it's shameful really. I live in Woodford County (Versailles) and have two of the big guns (WT and Woodford) within 10 minutes and Buffalo Trace is about 25 minutes away and wouldn't you know it I've never been on a single bourbon tour. I guess it's like living in Orlando and never going to Disney (or something like that). I keep meaning to do it but I guess I take for granted the fact I live so close and don't have to travel so don't have to plan it too much. I should seriously have my bourbon card revoked....

Eagle Rare tonight. Was able to score a batch 12 Stagg Jr. last week at the Kroger Liquor store but I've put that back for a bit. I've heard that batch is quite good compared to earlier batches. I gave myself the choice of that or EC barrel proof. There was one bottle of Stagg Jr. and three of ECBP. I regretted not buying both on the way home. Went back an hour later and all three were gone. Probably won't have that chance again for months. Stupid...

Given the Stagg is more rare than the ECBP, you made the right call between the two. Sucks you didn't get both though! What batch was the ECBP?

I have no idea. When they get rarer bottles, they're behind the counter and far enough away to not be able to see the writing. I guess I could have asked but I had already made up my mind on the Stagg Jr.

EDIT: If I had to guess, it would have been C919. The local stores around here never really get "new old stock." I keep an eye on the Booker's batches and literally within days of them being released they're on the shelves here.

It was Evan Williams Bottled in Bond and Monkey Shoulder tonight while giving out candy.

Stupid hard to find those just sitting on the shelf here. I'd have bought both. Good call on the Stagg if for no reason other than every batch I've had has been a wild ride.

I will add it wouldn't have sat on the shelf long. This was at 0930 on a Friday...30 minutes after they open on the day they get their shipments. There's usually a bunch of folks hanging out up to an hour before they open to see what comes in. I did that a few times but it's a total crap shoot. Might as well get a little work done, then head over there after the degenerates clear out to see what scraps I can pick up. Although it also makes me wonder what I might have missed if the "scraps" were a bottle of Jr. and three of ECBP....

Cheers on the eagle rare tonight. My brother texted me a picture of him drinking it so I poured a glass my self while handing out candy.

Redbreast (Single pot still Irish Whiskey ) its some thing like a single malt whiskey, heavier and more of a distinct flavor.

According to the museum, the story goes that even though Laphroaig was 'established' in 1815 the original distillers had been making whisky and selling it to their fellow islanders for quite a bit longer than that. But they had caught the attention of the King's tax man and had to 'get legit' in a hurry, and to avoid having to pay a bunch of back taxes they said that it was a new venture that they'd just started doing. But we've also stopped at Glenturret, Dalwhinnie, Blair Athol, Edradour, Ben Nevis, and Oban, and there's so much history that it'll make your head spin more than the drams. I checked in to the tour for Laphroaig and was immediately offered a 'wee warmer'....of my choice of either Triple Wood or Lore, before the tour even started!

But between Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Ardbeg, and a trip out to the monument at the Mull of Oa I used up a whole day on Islay (we stayed overnight here ) and hardly saw a fraction of what it has to offer. It's not a really large island, but if you ever make the trip to Scotland you need to plan on at least two days on Islay so you can visit the full distillery list (including hopping the ferry to Jura). We plan on going back at some point, and we'll probably end up booking 4-5 days on Islay when we do because it really was absolutely gorgeous.

Also, spotted this in the display room at Glenturret.

Currently a Dollar is worth something like 77% of a Pound, so that's a nearly $10,000 bottle ($9800, roughly)
