I've got something I've been thinking about all year, gonna run it through here and see what ya'll think.
I hunted a (new to me) spot last year on public. It ended up being one of the best spots I've ever hunted. The first 3 hunts I saw at least 18 different bucks. I kept hunting it almost daily (when wind would allow) and it never slowed down. It was about as good of a place as one can expect on public land.
Anyhow, sometime in Feb or March I went back in there just nosing around. There was a very light snow on the ground. There was not a single deer track anywhere. Not one. This doesn't really bother me tho, I knew at the time the deer were in there because of acorns. I'm just wondering (hoping) it's got deer in it this year.
Here's the setup (pic to follow); there is a small grown up thicket on the left (west) that was chocked full of does. It looks like a field in the pic but it's grown up. It's really small, maybe 300 yards north to south, 150 yard east to west. To the right (east) is a huge swamp. Nasty, water, large dry mounds...perfect stuff.
Almost every doe came from the small thicket, almost every buck came from the big swamp and then they all met in the middle in the open oaks (the dot, which is where I was hunting).
I've not been in there yet this year and I saw no other people there last year so I guess I'm just wondering out loud if it will be as good this year. I dunno...fingers crossed.

That’s not a bad price fir Mathews. Have u ever look into bear. I shot both dude by side and perfered the bears.

 

I used to shoot aluminum risers. I discovered carbon and never looked back. It doesn't get cold. It's crazy.

 

T-4 More night shifts.

 

3 does this morning but they never got in bow range. Gonna head back out in the morning and give it another shot. If they do something similar to this morning I might get a chance at a doe at least.

 

saw 4 doe out at about 375-400 yds, not much for buck activity on my hunting property...

 

Sat from 6:01am until 1:15 this afternoon. 9 doe a few unknowns because they were doing 100 mph . Heard some grunting and rattled in a 4 pointer who bedded within 15 yards of me for over 2 hours .

 

He was laying on his side like he was dead for awhile.

 

My wife’s uncle stopped by the house and told my wife there is a big buck chasing a doe along side the standing corn down the road . It’s only a few hundred yards down the hill from where I was sitting this morning. Then they proceeded to cross the road
