Toyota now offers a new deal for our batteries. For $220ish dollars (the price of that pos red top) Toyota offers a lifetime replacement battery. Being in Florida this is a game changer for us. As long as we own the truck they will replace it for free when it goes bad. In the 10 years I have owned my truck I have gone through 4 batteries and the one I have now is getting ready to shit the bed. I am going to get this battery so at least I won’t ever pay for another one. Seems worth it to me.

@Crosis Seems a good deal IF your battery happens to die within close proximity to a Toyota dealer. My experience with dead batteries is much more random and inconvenient.

if your going through a battery every 2-3 years its good, mines original factory at 6 years now looks like it will be 7 years as far as I can tell, I monitor the CCA and volts with a multimeter

Toyota needs to adopt this policy for our frames.

Must be shipping all the shitty second hand batteries to You. What are you doing that you killing a battery every 2.5 years? That’s not normal.

Mines a 2015 and I just had the 2nd battery fail me right before a camping trip. Yes I live in Florida heat, but I’ve had many other batteries from cheap ones to the gold series and none of them have failed as quickly as the Toyota ones.

Exactly what @3Dog said... it’s great if you’re right near a Toyota dealership, but that wasn’t my case. They wanted the battery and the truck there to test the electrical system before honoring anything. And knowing my past Toyota dealership experiences, I knew it’d be at least 2-3 hrs for me to get in and out. So in the essence of time I swapped it with my gate opener battery, had the charging system checked at autozone a few miles away, and went on my trip with no issues.
Had the failed battery been a big auto parts chain store’s I would have been in and out in no time.
To me, it’s a hinderance to have to deal with the dealership, but to each their own.

    This..

The way they see, it at that price, they can give away roughly 2 batteries before it starts to cost them money. They're hoping that by the time you come back with a third failed battery there will be something wrong that they can repair.. and charge you for..

You're not just gonna be walking in with a battery, exhanging it and walking out with a new one

actually its 100% normal for florida. Every car I have ever owned, which is more than all your fingers, goes through batteries in 3 years or less.

For me its worth it. I have spent nearly 900 bucks on batteries just for this truck. 600 on my corvette.

You’re saying it’s the heat in Florida. I assure you it’s hotter in Texas and I don’t go thru batteries like you.

I’d say it’s worth it if you are allowed to proactively get a new battery when its state of health drops to 50% or less. If it’s purely reaction based where the battery needs to be incapable of starting the vehicle before you get a replacement battery, it’s not worth it.

A replacement program like this could easily be made to work to the customer benefit if you owned a good entry level Battery load tester...if you want a new battery, you can deep discharge the battery a handful of times to get that state of health down, to get a new battery when you want.

I live in Texas and they die every 2-3 years in our Acura and the Tacoma. Said that was normal life expectancy now.

I live in Texas. Dallas to be specific and it gets hot. Very hot.. My stock toyota battery died in 2012 and the Napa Gold I replaced it with died in 2018. I keep an eye on the water level and make sure everything stays clean and tight. My truck is an '06 PreRunner. I'm not giving anybody $200 plus for a battery.

Interesting discussion, I just got my Tacoma (2019) a few weeks ago so no experience with that yet, but I have had an Interstate Battery in my Ranger for 8 years and (knock on Wood) it's still going. I will admit that I fully expected it to die last winter but it made it through and has been basically trouble free since I bought it. Since I've used them for every vehicle I've owned I imagine that IB will be my first choice when it comes time to replace the Tacoma's, which I hope is NOT in 2 years. I guess living in the mid atlantic has some benefits since we don't have the heat that others experience.

OEM still fine, will be 8 years this January. Has been through Northeast weather, cooooooold winters and some hot summers. This one definitely doesn't owe me anything! Watch............it will sh$t the bed next week, LOL
My experience with commercial vehicle batteries if you get 3 - 4 years, its great.

I don't get why you guys aren't buying the batteries+ X2 batteries. They have a 5 year free replacement warranty. Sure they're expensive, but it seems like you guys are guaranteed to get 2 batteries out of the deal.

Going through batteries every two to three years is ridiculous, dont care what climate you live in, something is off.
