Better than the CVT trash they’re using if you can’t get a 6spd (for the WRX).

Best part of a Subie is that they don’t flag (afaik) in their computer systems at all for a tune. VW flags for ECU or TCU and it automatically sends up to HQ for the worldwide flag on that VIN.

5w40 is about the standard across manufacturers for best oil. VW calls for 0w20 now in the EA888 platform now, but the techs I’ve talked to said 5w40 is their choice in personal maintenance. Same I encountered with Subaru and Toyota.

I’m talking about the new ones. My buddy had a.. 14? Hatchback with the 5spd. His transmission was troublesome as well.

i have seen so many people tow their gti's in with blown motors and service asked them if its tuned. they say no and when the tech plugs into the car we find it has been tuned and they pushed the car too much or tried to tune it themselves.

My 2004 2.5RS had the majority of it's transmission replaced under warranty at 27k miles, and it was failing again when I sold it around 70k miles.
    And the paint quality...

Which is surprising consider the EA888 can build power easy. The IS38 swap is pretty popular and I haven’t seen much in the way of engine problems. Then again, people are idiots and lie to a tech about a tune.

Wait.. they’re THAT bad? Good grief.

Adding insult to injury it was the first new vehicle I ever owned and I've never had transmission trouble in any car prior to or since that shit heap :)

I have a mk7 GTI and it’s the best car I’ve had. I love my Tacoma but the GTI gets better mpg, has tons more power, rides better, is quieter and has more comfortable seats. If one of them had to go, it would definitely be the taco if I didn’t need it for work. Mine is Unitronic stage 1+ tuned, 310hp 350 ft lb. It’ll spin 1st and 2nd easy being fwd. Mines got almost 70k with no issues expect a slight leak in the water pump. It’s a common issue and I just top up the coolant bottle every oil change and it’s good to go. Would recommend this car to anyone.

You were able to lemon law a car with a turbo swap and meth injection? I think your lawyer deserves a round of applause lol.

It’s been an issue forever with VW cars, afaik. You DSG or 6MT?

Water pump issues, as seen above, are a common error that VW has replaced no questions asked. The fact that he got a lemon law out of that is what’s more surprising to me.

I traded my 18 STi for my 19 PRO Tacoma. Kinda regret it, since the third gen has been a major let down. Cobb Stage 2 with supporting mods.

I’m not sure how transmissions have anything to do with crank walk..

My point asking was OEM DSG clutches are stronger than the manual ones, else I was going to ask what clutch you moved on to since OEM ones are made to handle OEM power. Word is the R clutches can barely hold the R’s tune.

Yea the GTI stock clutches are weak, look up “MK7 GTI Crank Walk” and stuff will pop up. People are discovering on 15, 16, 17 cars the thrust bearings are improperly made and can lead to engine failure. DSG doesn’t put thrust load on the crank and doesn’t have that issue. Idk if they fixed it for 2019 or not.

    Still stock completely capable!
My uncle was the service manager at a VW dealership. He was constantly battling with head office because they constantly tried to have him find ways to put the blame on the customer rather than the vehicle. After 1 year he quit to go back and be a 2nd at a Toyota dealership again because he refused to stand behind a product he couldn’t support. He says VW doesn’t stand behind there products so he couldn’t stand he behind them. Since being back with Toyota he said he can at least sleep at night knowing he is doing the right thing and helping as much as he can.

Doesn’t seem that widespread. I also wouldn’t own a DSG because I love the manual in GTIs. The 6/72 warranty will save it I suppose.

IMHO they’re all huge corporations and they don’t care about you. I’ve heard of VW being super generous and doing warranty repairs on heavily modified cars outside of warranty. I’ve also heard of them being dicks about covering common issues under warranty on a stock car and I’ve heard the exact same for Toyota. I don’t really know if one could say one is better than the other in that regard imo. I’m not here to defend either automaker because my family/friends have owned many Toyota’s and VW’s.
