Well looked at the Blizzaks. But decided to go with the Coopers and Studs. I think they will be better suited for the stuff Im usually dealing with which is deeper type slush/snow shit and the studs will handle the ice more than enough. Plus since I put a lot of miles on they will last a bit longer

Wish i'd ordered them sooner. Supposed to snow again all early next week. Get them next saturday.

    See how it goes.

studs are worse on ice basically like ice skates. Studs are for snow. Studless snow tires are best for ice and it’s bc they are siped and the rubber is soft. Blizzaks are the best tire for winter I’ve ever driven in hands down.

Eh we will see. Devin's been running studs for three years out here on her Honda insight. Been awesome.

Not like these tires aren't soft either.

They were also over 200 cheaper. Maybe I'll try the bilz next time. My hankooks do fine really other than stopping.

The annoying thing about the blizzaks is they are rated extremely high for ice but that's due to the extremely soft compound. Which is only on 50% of the tread. Like...why? You loose the performance once you've worth through that. So your buying half a tire at twice the cost.

For humans, sure, but trucks can’t move their front tires from French fries to pizza and back at will

Ya if your tire moved like human feet sure. Or would you argue you skates help you go further due to less surface contact?

I have Blizzaks on the Volvo and they're amazing. Although, I had some Yokohama IceGuards on the Subaru and those were excellent as well.

I think the studless winters tires are almost always better than the studded.

I had a set of hakapelita (?) on my wrx. Drove like it was on rails. Was looking at getting some x ice 3s for the 100 in the near future. I think I saw that they were more of a light truck tire compared to blizzacks.

I thought my st Maxx did great in the snow in Colorado. Rarely saw ice and slush though. Never really had a problem getting around in 2wd.

Not sure I'd say studs act as skates. I'd more closely relate them to an ice axe. They're supposed to punch the ice. I'm still not sure if I'll get tires that are studded though. I find the noise quite annoying.

yeah worried about that. Already loud enough in the single cab.

They will be better than no snow tire either way.

I’ve been running Duratracs on everything for the past five years or so, commute togowotee on everything from glare ice with a 1/4 inch of melted water on top (worst case scenario,) to two feet of snow about 100 days out of the year. No complaints yet.

I do know those do well in snow too. Perhaps those will be the next DD option when both sets die. My hankooks are going very strong with 2 years on them. So if I get 3 more years out of the snow tires and those then I'll be happy. Duratrac would be a good all year tire I think. But not that cheap. Kind of surprised how much they are in 31x10.5r15

We made some good progress on the RedHead's repairs today. @drr @turbodb @Speedytech7

Got the DMZ motor mounts burned in. Starting with figuring out where to position them and tacking them in. Then pulling the motor out again to burn them in fully.

And it looks like she wont be needing this any more. :D

Also replaced the flex plate and the rear main seal behind it. The seal was leaking (no photo) but what is interesting there was no visible evidence of a leak until we saw behind the flex plate. I am very glad I had a seal on hand.

I'd say the scary part is done though. I mean sure the rest will be tedious, but the :sawzall: and :welder: was the part that I'd have been most worried about on my truck (getting everything glued on so bits were aligned correctly, and I think we got that).

Oh, and a couple other interesting tidbits of information from today... (not to steal Redhead's thunder):
    • ADS front coilovers extended length is ~20 1/4, give or take. Call it a bit over 20". That compares to Mike's Kings that are 19 1/2" as I recall. Interesting, given that his were sold as "extended travel."
    • I was going to replace my lower spherical bearings today on the front coils, but on removal of the passenger side, discovered that the misalignment spacers were essentially disintegrated (worn completely through the "thin middle race" part). As such, I didn't replace the bearings b/c I'd just destroy the new ones. Need to order some new misalignment spacers and lower shock bolts now.
    • Zane discovered his plate cover. :anonymous:
