Help needed Near disaster and I’m embarrassed to admit it

So it was not a KC switch...

 

Here is the burnt switch

 

And not sure how well you can see from pics but after inspection of wire with switch that I tugged thru the firewall there are some chafed and nicked up spots on the wire but none that I can see actual wire or metal. Just scuffs

 

You mixed up the terminals on the switch, you brought power in and ground out, when you turned the switch on it made a dead short starting at the switch.
It's the only most likely cause.
Ether leave the new relay harness with as little modification as possible. Or I would suggest looking for a regional forum thread and asking someone to help you in person.

 

That I don’t know. It was a harness that was sent with kc lzr that I assumed were what was used with the lights

 

As said before, that switch was not rated for a load. You should have a relay in the system to carry the load.

It’s was actually heat shrink not tape but that’s from each side different angles. The negative was black and red

Ok so I fucked it up? It’s completely possible. I had to remove the switch in order to fit it thru fire wall and I placed the #3 terminal to neg bc I could’ve sworn that’s the way I instantly read when removed it but maybe I was in over my head and stressing a bit

My advice, Have your wiring done by a professional. Or at least someone who understands it.

 

Fair enough. I’m not gonna deny it it’s very possible at that point I was kinda stressing tbh

 

For anyone else, when you remove a switch from a harness, mark the leads n switch, so you get correct when you assemble it, (even if you use a relay blocks and 30 amperage switches to handle the the relay coils with 10 amp fuse and 12 gauge wire at each switch in less than 10 feet round trip...)

 

Ok so I’m tossing that burned up harness and I’ve ordered a few new ones and the mictunes rocker switches I think I can do it now with a little instruction. I’m gonna wire everything up besides the switches beforehand and add circuit breaker relays and aux box.

 

Dead short is only thing that I could see doing that.
It's cool man we all been there.
Just get some help.
Or at least draw yourself a diagram before you unplug the switch.
Colored paint pens, zip ties. Etc.
