Changed the battery in my 2017 Tacoma. Everything went wrong.

Well, it is a diode, so long as you didn't exceed the reverse voltage of the diode, it should be fine.

I'm thinking that since he got it to run, it might not be as bad as it sounds. Some of what he reported sounded like a low voltage situation, which would be expected if the old battery was bad and the alternator was fried or underperforming - or perhaps disconnected by a blown fuse.

 

The truck started and ran. Who knows.

 

In theory, fuses exist to prevent damaging electrical surges to equipment, so I'm betting OP only needs new fuses.

Sad to say I’m a systems expert aviator. I literally fly with pilots and diagnose systems. So this is miles beneath me to have f****d this up. Yes fuses are in place to protect electrical components. I guess I’ll find out how well they actually work.

 

Every single person in this thread and on this forum has done something worse, guaranteed. That should at least make you feel a little better.

Well OP, not gonna lie, I've been there done that on an older vehicle. Luckily I just had to replace 3 fuses. Hopefully that's all it is.

 

OP, You stated your groceries were "unthawing" in the back of your truck. Was it really cold where you were? Around here, "unthawing" is commonly called "freezing".

 

You have to with these toilets that use less and less water.
