I've always made the argument and it is well documented that the way they determine the playoffs right now is total crap. So there's that. But since the current playoff system exists I have no problem with coaches and teams finding ways to work it in their favor. I still find it retarded that you have conference championships but they don't really matter in the end. You'll still let a team that didn't even make it into the playoffs. To me that's stupid and even if Florida made it that way I would still be screaming it's stupid. If they're not going to mean anything don't have them at all.

Now we're here arguing about who the better one loss team is. They're really all just as bad because they have one loss. But therein lies the problem... If we're only left with three undefeated teams obviously one of those one-loss teams are going to make it and the biggest argument is who?

 

Yea. That Clemson loss to Pitt played a big role. And that Clemson loss to Cuse.

 

well let me throw Oregon into the mix since we only lost to Auburn on a “neutral field”

 

My point... if Oregon wins out and clenches their championship I think they definitely should be in the conversation for a playoff spot. Unfortunately... What's going to happen is the loser of next week's Alabama /LSU game is going to be able to find their way in the playoffs and not play in their conference title game. So if Clemson Ohio State and the SEC Champion remain undefeated that leaves other one-loss teams from conferences like the big 12 and Pac-12 out in the cold because the one loss loser from that SEC game is going to go ahead. I find that rather retarded.

 

I'd tend to agree with you but the problem is we have more than 4 conferences. So as someone else said the conference championships seem pointless. Besides Auburn, Oregon has only played one ranked opponent so thats whats going to kill their hopes. I do like the playoff construct but we just need more teams.

 

6 teams... power 5 and a group of 5 champion makes it... use rankings to seed. All is fair with the world.

Cal was 4-1 at the time we played them and wasn’t ranked because they lost to ASU the week before so the went from 4-0 and ranked 15 to 4-1 and not ranked at all, also they have a win over ole’ miss.... Washington was ranked 25 when we played them.

I get it Pac-12 looks bad but we aren’t play wofford or a directional college in the middle of the season....

On a separate not Ohio State is looking reallllllllllll good

It’s not that easy for conference realignments and just joining conferences willy nilly. That’s why 8 makes more sense than 6.

 

Other then ND who needs to join a conference and why would you need realignments?
We should add that 9th conference game as a standard like p12 b12 and b10

yes 8 makes sense for the amount of teams but then you come back to human bias. With 6 teams you don’t have bias. Win your conference and your in...

 

But not everyone is in a power 5 and not everyone can join a power 5 that only makes sense if there are only 6 conferences.

 

his comment and the argument I have had is make that 6th team the best non power 5 so you could pretty much lump all those teams into one “conference” but leave them in the leagues they are in.

 

5 power conferences...

5 lesser conferences that make up the group of 5.

9 conference games... 3 OOC that are at least an FBS school. Conference championship then add one from the lesser conferences to let them "prove they belong" (UCF we're looking at you...)

I promise you that you will get an undisputed champion.

 

But then you’ll hear from the 1 loss non conference champs who we all know is better than that at large team. So there needs to be more space outside the 5 power 5 champs than just 1 spot. Look at UCF last year. At 6 teams they might have been the at large team. LSU beat them in the New Years six but LSU wouldn’t have been in the playoff at 6 teams but might have at 8.
