Automatic Sway Bar Disconnects

Those would work well, but they don't sell them anymore.

Yeah, yeah... I don't know if you've read my build thread lately, but I've had a ton of other problems to solve.

However, I was woking on my truck just this evening and thinking some more about this.

 

A guy I met in Johnson Valley had this setup...

I voted not interested, because I just take the sway bar off, and it rides better now.

 

If you want to call that better.

 

To me it ride much better.

 

I took off my swaybar but I didn't like how the truck shook at highway speeds. A little sketchy.

 

I'm not sure you need a dash board button.

You're gonna do it the same time you get out to air down tires - so you're going to be out of the car anyway. A bulletproof mechanical mechanism would be fine, and keep the cost down.

 

x2 it takes a while to air down so you might as well just disconnect them then

I would be interested in any sway bar quick disconnect options.

And:

Anything to reinforce or beef up the current link, via replacement or what ever.

All Pro Sway Bar Collar. and seem to be two options to beef up this area.

I know one member broke a link, has a good pic, but not sure how often the links ever become an issue.

Will not consider removing the sway bar, under load, towing or bed load, emergency maneuvers depend on that bar.

Going for an expedition type build so weight management safely is paramount.

 

This would be nice if someone did this for production

 

I just took my sway bar off. It rides so much better now! Not at all worried about highway wobbles or high speed maneuvers.. It drives like my old 99 taco now

 

This is an old thread and that pic was posted what, nearly two years ago?

But it's only on this most recent thread that I figured out how the setup in this picture would actually work.

Basically, when you air down, you disconnect the link on the red side, loosen two bolts (wing nuts?) and remove everything in red - leaving everything in black fully connected.

That's a clean setup, and better than some of the ideas I was thinking about.

 

In top of that, if you end up rolling over, the ins. co. will deny you-re coverage.

 

someone posted that simply disconnecting the 05+ doesn't work that well as there isn't enough room and the sway bar still gets in the way- haven't tried it myself so only repeating what was posted

the above setup where you're removing a good portion of the swaybar looks like it should work- I'd be up for a swaybar disconnect setup that worked and was relatively quick to accomplish

for highway driving I'd just as soon keep the roll stiffness provided by the front swaybar

 

Any headway on this?
