I don’t know what percentage of people have broke a hinge, but it is not insignificant based on posts here. It is not everyone either.

In the other thread there are reports hinges breaking with the new sealing method. Best to be prepared and not be caught out if it happens.

 

Well. I just bought 3 rolls of duct tape to carry with me in case of an oh shit scenario. I have a small tool kit and some string so I'm find on that front.

I'm number 40 something and I LOVE my camper. I've only camped in it 1/2 dozen times or so but that doesn't matter. This thing is DA BOMB for every day use. That's why I bought it and I still think it's a f@cking awesome product. I like it better than my previous plane jane canopy - like 10,000%. I can't say enough good things about the people or the product.

But, if my hinge breaks I'll be hooped because this is my every day driver.

I'm one of the faithful. Dipshits can call me a 'fan boy' - but they can F themselves because I actually have one and drive it around every single day. That being said - GFC needs to figure this shit out ASAP. Even just single digit percentage failure is a problem if it renders the entire system unusable.

I have driven with 2 kayaks (wilderness systems pungo 120) on the roof rack on the gfc. It is too much weight to be able to set up the tent unless you rig something to take the weight off the struts.
I have not put my canoe on the roof of the gfc yet. My only concern would be if the boat fits nicely. My old town (discovery?) has a tall bow and stern compared to the middle, so upside down on the rack, the bow might be sitting on the roof of the cab of the truck.
If I get a chance in the next few days I’ll see if I can test fit it.
Of course putting a Thule/Yakima basket on the load bars and then putting the canoe on top of that might be all it needs.

Apparently, I can’t search... does anyone have the link to the diy 8020 beef rack handy? I can’t remember the part number for the side plates.

How did you afix the board to the bed or is it just resting on the lip?

It is resting on the lip of the bed. The angle of the paracord holds it against the tube. Used it this past weekend and it worked well for my needs.

@2ayne and others who have made the roof chop. Has this helped with condensation? I was camping in KY this last weekend, nights were in the 20s-40s and pretty damn humid as always in the southeast. Almost felt like it was raining on the inside of the camper, both windows at least halfway to fully open.

100%. Even with the fan off but the vent open is noticeably better.

 

Picking up my GFC soon, how's the wind noise driving with them? Is the wind skid necessary?
