Yeah Tony! Driving that thing like it is meant to be driven! My old first gen is actually for sale again! Gonna go see if I can't maybe wrangle them on a deal... It would become my trail rig so I don't have to beat up Ol' Blue. I am getting to the point where I baby it a bit too much haha as it is the only thing I have got!

I have been thinking the same thing, I saw an 82 toy with solid axle front and back for only 650 bucks. For 650 I wouldn't care if I roll back done the hill! Money doesn't go as far as I would like it to!

Thought so. Next time you go up there let me know - I'll mail you my old air filter and the cubic foot of dust that it contains, you can redistribute it back on the road where it belongs!

Both are great hills and I would recommend them both. As far as times to go, I recommend like mid to late February. The real snow shows up a little later around here. Temp: The worst comes in about January, but you just need to stay on top of it as we do get some bad stuff occasionally in Feb too. Places to stay: I am of no help there. When I frequented Big Sky, I lived close enough to make it a day trip. As far as Jackson, plans were premade.

As far as specific gear, don't expect anything too wild. Bring av/recovery gear and be prpared. As long as I have been skiing, I have only found myself in one avalanche at Big Sky, but we brought it upon ourselves and wanted to ski it without the early morning blasting after about 14" of snow. You shouldn't find any avalanches at either site, but be weary regardless.

I could suggest other mountains, but how long are you staying out here? Those are definitely the main two out in this region anyway.

I would probably be down too... In talks with a guy for some new wheels, already have tires. Now just a lift/new suspension!

just thought I'd share a few shots from my weekend..

not a promising start - road rage! - there had better be a good reason for this
    [IMG]

    OK, good reason
    [IMG]

    toy in Yellowstone
    [IMG]

    and in the Tetons
    [IMG]

oh, and I'm going up there. The hard way.

After 7.3 miles I made it to the top of the world
    [IMG]

and coming back down the fast way. Ooohh! I can see my truck from here!

    eh, whatever!

Fine. Jackson is pricey no matter what. Plan of forking out $150 average/night for a room during peak season. Take some time to check out Grand Teton Park while you're there. The main park road closes in the winter but you can still see the sites from the highway. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and Snow King are the main hills down there. If you do JHMR, eat at Bridger restaurant on the mountain and admire my work.
I recommend 43 North, Snake River Brewing, the Gunbarrel and the Bunnery for dining - lots of other places but those are my staples. 43 North and Gunbarrel have the best steaks/prime rib. The Bunnery is a restaurant/bakery - all sorts of yummy fresh baked goodies. I can't go there without grabbing a loaf of cinnamon bread.
If you're driving between Bozeman and Jackson, check the weather forecast. Its roughly a 5 hour drive and if there is a bad storm they will close the pass on Hwy 22 just outside of Jackson. There is no other nearby road to get to Jackson so you will be trapped in Idaho.

Take a day and hit up Bridger Bowl. Hike the ridge and ski Schlashmans lift.

I know...it was one of those moments where I bounce my head off the steering wheel and scream 'you've got to be kidding me!'. And if my truck can't make it on that I know I won't survive another meet with you boys.

Now to decide if I should just get new tires or get new wheels too.

You boys... I was the most careful of the bunch! I may be a little more keen to play when I get my shit together though. In cahoots with a guy in Denver on some new wheels, I already have my winter tires, and trying to fund a lift. You should do wheels and tires. Want some TRD Sport 17s? Haha
