Did you just add another hitch receiver?

Yes. Added this when I was messing with the latches a couple months ago.

Did add another gusset on the bottom yesterday too for peace of mind, but it probably wasn't going anywhere regardless.

Any reason you didn't just mount a bike rack to the spare tire?

Wanted to keep the bike centered.

I also think those racks that hang the bike from the frame aren't as secure, and therefore wouldn't work as well for even mild offroading.

Hey 1st gen guys, I'm not trying to pick on anyone directly, but can you explain why many of you guys are putting a 3-4" tall bump stop extension on the U-bolt flips? Is the longer shocks under the bed?
The 2nd/3rd gen guys have to fight to keep their bump travel, and you guys are taking your greater stock bump travel, balling it up and throwing it away!
From my perspective this is not the correct way to get a capable suspension.

The leafs generally go into negative arch with the stock length bump stop and reduce their life.

My need was because right around where the leafs were going negative was also where the shock was being close to full collapsed length. I have been wondering lately if I put 11" travel shocks instead of 10" if that will let me have both more up and down travel and I will strictly be limited by my leafs capacity but not at all restricted by fears of the shocks going full compressed or full extended ever. But I worry how that affects shock performance. If performance changes based on where you are in ext/bump. Of course I would lower my lower mounts to get the bigger shocks in. But right now they barely hang below the axle at all.

That's one of those incorrect ideas that gets adopted and copied and becomes a way. Somewhat negative does not hurt things especially without a beastly overload that can strain the far ends of the spring at big negative arch. Deaver Springs change the front eye to a reverse and rear eye to Berlin (mid eye) so that their 1st gen packs go far less negative than the stock/Alcan/OME O_____O

My leafs go slightly negative with the bump extensions. Without they would be a complete frowny face.

1st gen leafs have weird geometry with them being much shorter in front of the axle than behind, and seem to make the leafs go wavy/negative way quicker. I've cycled a 2nd gen with Alcans and they cycle like 4" more than mine without going negative.

I've got like 50/50 up and down travel with my rear setup, and it outperforms the front, so no point in killing the leafs and trying to fit shocks in that won't fit for a little more travel.

That would only occur with a bypass.

My Icon 2.5's I built for my rear have a bump zone built into them the last 3ish of travel. Works well with the CDCV resi.

Alright, I take that back lol. Is that just a custom thing you did or on all Icons?

Most Icon 2.5's have the resi outlet lower on the body to create the bump zone.

My current setup after I shortened the shocks to 10". I may order parts to go to 11" travel mainly because of how my upper mounts are angled farther back. But it works pretty well as is and I got other projects to work on.

I didn't say it as the absolute truth. My above setup doesn't have a grossly lengthened bump stop and works fine with 13+ year old deavers. Gen 1 to 2 leaf geometry is very different and most that have had to rebuild or replace leafs after 20K and 2 years lengthen the bumps to get more life out of the leaf springs.

Or have a main leaf break and leave you stranded. :cookiemonster:

That pic helps alot thanks, I see now. Looks like you have a 1"-1.5" stand on the bump (Wheeler's?), and the bump would compress about 1.5" more meaning even more negative than picture. The amount negative in the picture is where I would prefer it stop.

The 2nd/3rd gen are actually slightly negative as well, brand new on the dealer lot. I hope the 4th gen on the new global platform gets better geometry and more bump travel

That's the standard universal wheelers bump. I should lengthen them 1.5-2" but haven't gotten to it yet. Hell that pic is the second trip with that new axle, bumps, lower shock mounts, shocks.

I'll make you a set of 2.25" tall bump mounts for the Super bumps

Actually I can make them any height, and with these beastly plates

I know that's what the overlanders want these days, but bolt-ons and buying shit you can easily make yourself is not my MO, and definitely not Tim's either.
