I'm currently in the market for a new Toyota truck.

I joined the forum because it seemed like a good place to do research, and get some honest information and opinions from people who actually own a gen 3 Tacoma.

Welcome to TW. There's a ton of knowledge around here (once you sift through some silliness).

Complete honesty... I didn’t care for my 3rd Gen until I did the OVTune upgrade.

I bought an automatic. Later traded it for the manual. Learn from my mistake.

I have never owned an automatic. I have my '85 truck, and a '90 4runner that both have a 5 speed. However, an autostart on a manual is kind of a pain in the ass. I put one on the 4runner. The only reason I'm considering automatic is so I can start it remotely (without having to set the thing up like do with the 4runner).

I many still go with a manual but it seems like they are sort of rare on the dealer lots.

If all you’ve driven is manual, the 3rd gen auto is gonna drive you bonkers. The gearing in the MT is so much better suited for the motor in this truck.

they are around, but you may have to travel to find one. I had a dealer order mine and waited 8 weeks for it.
